Today is the day...Steve is finally going to change the slide-topper awning. He had ordered and picked up the material in early January and watched and re-watched the You-Tube video on how to do it. So with Earl's help, he is going to tackle it today.

As you can see, it is dire need of replacing...

The end cap on Earl's side was installed incorrectly not allowing access to the slot so Steve had to slide off  the old topper on his side...a little tricky since the arm to the big awning is in the way. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of Steve pulling off the old topper.

Now it's time to inspect everything that is normally out of sight...

This is Steve's only opportunity to clean and apply silicone spray to the upper rubber seals of the slider...

On with the new topper...they spun the roller tube until they had access to the next slot where the end cap and roller slots matched up on Earl's end. This also made the topper more taut. I was holding up the end of the material behind Earl...

Earl fed the topper into the track on both the trailer side and the roller side, while Steve carefully pulled it through. Almost there Earl!

Okay...looks like it's centered now...so we powered the slide in and out a couple of times to make sure the new material was spooling back onto the roller straight...

Steve then re installed the screws on either end of the track on the trailer siding to hold the topper in place then applied a bit of silicone to plug an unused screw hole...

Steve had to drill a new hole to re-attach the anti billowing device...

And there you go...done! Replacing the topper probably took about half an hour with two people doing it (and me helping out where I could) but with the prepping before hand then cleaning and putting things away it was about an hour and a half in total. Thanks for your help, Earl!

After the topper was done, Steve puttered around outside while I baked a walnut-raisin loaf. About 2:30 Steve headed into Quartzsite to get fresh water, propane, gas and fill the truck up with diesel (our first fill this month), while I sat outside reading.

With the work day complete, we sat outside in the late afternoon sun...our old topper is now an outdoor mat...recycling!
