We had a super cold night...down to 23F/-5C...but the sky was a clear blue today! So we weren't in any hurry to get going...let's let it warm up a bit outside.
We pulled out of Carlsbad KOA with Dave and Leslie following. We had planned on stopping at another truck stop for diesel but found one along the way with diesel $3.20/gallon...good deal, so we stopped there. Sorry for the change in plans, Dave!
Beautiful scenery today...a complete change from yesterday!
Above and below the Guadelupe Mountains...
We headed south/southwest on highway 62...
We dipped down into Texas...
Through Guadalupe Mountains National Park...
Beautiful drive!
Passing through a dry lake bed..
A grove of Yucca plants...
Time for a break...and a little lunch...
Dave and Leslie following...
That rest area looks a little tight!
Hmmm...looks like something we'd see driving through Roswell NM...but we're not...
Elevation 5280 feet and an 8% grade...
After skirting El Paso,...we continued north, back into New Mexico...
We arrived in Las Cruses...and Sunny Acres RV Park shortly after 2:30. When making reservations, they warned us about some major road construction in the area and they weren't kidding! But we managed to manoeuvre our way in, stopping at the office to register and pay...then to our sites.
About the only thing that Sunny Acres has going for it was it's reasonable price at $32/night with full hookups and the very friendly and helpful lady in the office. It was in a busy commercial/industrial area, so really didn't have any "it" factors. But it would serve our purpose for a couple of nights...to see White Sands National Monument. As a matter of fact, neither one of us took any pictures...obviously not picture worthy!
After we both had finished our set up, we sat out on our picnic table and "cheered" our new location with a cold drink...enjoying the late afternoon sunshine. Then it was into Leslie and Dave's rig for delicious taco salad...thanks guys!
A nice travel day and settled in for a couple of days, enjoy white sands.
ReplyDeleteYa gotta like a fairly short scenic drive on a beautiful day!
DeleteConsidering we waited a day for good weather that was a spectacular drive. Glad we didn't try it in the rain and snow. Cool backwards pick of us following, didn't see that before. I would stay at Sunny Acres again for a night or two but definitely not a destination park.
ReplyDeleteThat’s the beauty of this life style...you can wait out the weather and stay safe. Sunny Acres wad okay.
DeleteNice Scenery. We must have been following the route you took but towed out Trailer to Alamogordo.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a Safe and Enjoyable Trip.
It's about time.
Beautiful scenery through the mountains!
