It was just before 8:00 when we headed off...we thought we would have breakfast in Kaslo. On the way, we stopped at Coffee Creek for pictures...this was actually a very challenging area of the highway yesterday when we were pulling the 5th wheel...steep narrow road down into the canyon with a hair-pin curve at the bottom.
Once in Kaslo, we drove down to the main street...Front Street...and parked the truck just down from the Kaslo Hotel...a beautiful old building. As I got out of the truck, I found it a bit chilly...gee, what happened to the sunshine? We chose The Treehouse Restaurant for breakfast. It seemed to be a very popular spot and had a massive menu of breakfast items to choose from. Unfortunately, Steve’s choice of Bacon Eggs Benedict wasn’t a good one for him. The hollandaise sauce was described as “tangy” and it ended up being just a bit too tangy for him. I just had poached eggs and ham...it was good.
The restaurant had free Wifi so I managed to check email on my ipod. Although I do have cell service on my phone, the signal really fluctuates which I find very frustrating...but, hey...it’s waaaaay better than no service whatsoever!!
After breakfast, we walked down Front Street towards the Visitors Centre and the S.S. Moyie. The S.S. Moyie is a Provincial Historic Landmark and a National Historic Site. Built in 1898 for the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Moyie steamed on Kootenay Lake until 1957. She is the oldest known surviving intact passenger sternwheeler in the world and a heritage vessel of international importance. We took a walking tour of the ship...
We started off on the Saloon Deck. This is the Men's Smoking Room...

After making a couple stops...the liquor store and the market...we were back at the truck. We drove down and checked out the municipal campground...pretty small and quite full right now. Well, with the weather not looking that great...we decided we would drive north and explore that area. This is highway 31 that joins up with the part we drove on when we went to Trout Lake. We turned around where the pavement turned to gravel...stopping at Lost Ledge campground and Davis Creek campground...both are part of the Kootenay Lake Provincial Park.

Such beautiful country...even when it's cloudy...
On the way back, we stopped at Schroeder Creek Resort...the clerk at the Liquor Store had recommended it as a great spot. We spoke to the manager who walked us around and showed us some larger sites...all full right now. It was funny...when we got out of the truck there was a fellow standing outside the office and said “Didn’t I see you in Fort Langley?”...he recognized the truck. We chatted with him for a few minutes...obviously, he had been in Fort Langley when we were there. He comes here every year...arriving around the beginning of July.
We stopped in Kaslo for a couple more pictures...City Hall is being restored...
St. Andrew`s Church, 1893...
And as we continued south, it got incredibly dark with the cloud cover...and then the rain...it just poured!! I took this picture of Steve with these special glasses on that brighten things up and makes it easier to see....cute, eh? (HD glasses as seen on TV...they look goofy but they work...thanks, Dennis!) By the way, it`s not really that dark out...it is dark, but not night-time...it`s just the flash...
We stopped in Balfour at the Duck and Dock Pub for a beer and snack. It is right next to the ferry so we were able to watch the ferry come in.We were home just after 3:30...it was raining and cold out...we even ended up putting the furnace on in the trailer...gee from being too hot one day and then putting the furnace on the next day...sheesh!
