Tuesday, March 18, 2014 (Travel to Willows, California)

We were on the road by about 8:30 this morning...another gorgeous day! We are going to miss all of this blue sky and sunshine. We have already noticed a definite drop in daytime temperatures but we still have lots of sunshine.

We continued west along highway 58 (Rosedale Highway) until it met up with I-5 and then we headed north. The I-5 is not our favourite route but it's direct and gets you from point A to point B quickly.

It was a little windy again today but not nearly as bad as it was yesterday...

We passed a cattle stockyard...you gets lots of warning that you are nearing one, since you can smell it miles beforehand! This one is absolutely huge...and very stinky! We were miles past it and with the windows down still trying to rid the truck of the smell!

One of many the canals in California...lots of irrigation needed for the acres upon acres (upon acres!) of farmland and orchards. California is definitely a food producing state!

An interesting looking hotel on the other side of the freeway...

More canals...

 And pretty wildflowers...

We passed through Sacramento...

Sacramento River...

We stopped just north of Sacramento in Woodland, CA at a Walmart. There weren't any other RV's in the parking lot and I had read conflicting reports as to whether overnight parking was allowed. I went inside to ask and was told no, we would be better off to go to the Super-Walmart back about 10 minutes in West Sacramento. Well, we aren't backtracking so we continued north on the I-5 while I researched other spots where we could overnight. There was a truck stop about 20 miles further up the I-5 or a Super-Walmart another 67 miles in Willows...we decided on the Walmart, it would likely be considerably quieter than a truck stop.

So after an 8 hour drive, we arrived at the Walmart in Willows just after 4:30. We parked on the far right-hand side next to the I-5 in a lot where the truckers park. After going inside to ask if it was okay to park overnight,
I was told no problem as long as you are on the far side of the lot. Well, we can't get any further to the side of the lot, so we should be good.

We did our minimal set up then Steve decided he needed to stand for awhile, so he grabbed the California Duster and gave the truck and trailer a wipe.We then relaxed for a bit before dinner. Afterwards, we settled in for an evening of TV.

  1. Aw, you should've honked when you passed Hwy 80 (we're about 1 hr East of Sac). Where are you headed?
