Tuesday, December 17, 2013 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Yesterday Steve loaded his ATV into Earl's truck in preparation for our day trip to Lake Havasu City today. So at 10:00 this morning, we were all ready to leave...we had even done our resistance exercises, I had taken my power walk and we both had had our showers...yes, all of this before 10 a.m.!

We made a pit stop at Buckskin State Park just north of Parker...on the Colorado River...it was a gorgeous day...

We arrived at AZ West Motorsports just after 11:30. Steve off-loaded his quad under Earl's supervision...

...and rode it across the street to the waiting service tech. We will leave it with them while we fly home to Victoria for Christmas...hopefully it will be ready for pickup when we get back!

After a stop at Bump City Music Store to pick up some supplies for Allison, we made our way to The Red Onion in old town Lake Havasu...

...where we had a delicious lunch sitting outside on the patio enjoying the sunshine...

We stopped at Albertson's to pick up a few groceries...and our first Mega Millions lottery tickets for a chance at $636 million...then started our trek back. But instead of going straight home, we stopped at the Bill Williams Wildlife Refuge to search out a few geocaches.

We were unsuccessful in our first attempt to find a micro-geocache...

...so we continued along the rough gravel road for a bit and then got out to look for the next one...

Allison and Earl are leading the way up the hill...

While I stay behind because I forgot to put on my runners...not great walking in this terrain in flip-flops!

 Great views from up there!

Allison, with her incredible geocache finding skills, found it! Earl is logging in our find...

Then it was onto the next hunt...we had to walk down through a canyon in search of this one...

This cache was called "Tripple Saguaro"...
Found it!

On our way back to the truck...

The next geocache was also hidden well off the road...here is Earl looking for a trail leading off the road...

...while Allison and I had no problem finding the trail. Earl found a trail too...he just took a different route off the road...

Lots of ant hills in the sand...

We had a heck of a time finding this one...

...but Allison found it up on the hill...

More ant hills...

Since it was after 3:30 by this time, we decided to end our geocache hunt and head home.

Steve took more pictures on our way home...

It was shortly after 5:00 when we arrived back home...what a great day!

After a light dinner, Earl came over with his laptop to show us how to log geocache "trackables". He had three that he has passed over to us (via the geocaches logged today) and we are going to take them back home with us. We will hunt for a geocache on the Peninsula and place the "trackables" in it...to continue their journey.

  1. Those ant hills are really interesting - I've never seen one with such large holes or steep sides. Sure wouldn't want one in my campsite! :)
