Thursday, December 12, 2013 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

We were just puttering around this morning when Sue popped by shortly after 10:00 to see if we wanted to join them geocaching today. She made her way over to Earl and Allison's...looks like the six of us will be heading out in about an hour. That meant that we had to change gears and get moving...I put together a lunch to take while Steve gassed up the quads using his new pump.
It works well...a lot easier than lifting the containers and pouring it in...

Just before 11:30, we all headed out to find a chain of geocaches that had been placed north of Interstate 10. This meant taking a long route around through the washes to the north side of Quartzsite and then going east under highway 95...a tight fit...

Sue doesn't have much clearance on her RZR side-by-side...
 Allison finds a geocache...
I found this one...
 Steve finds this geocache...
 ...and another...

This whole area was used by General Patton to train troops...amazing that the tank tracks are still visible some 70 years later!

This is one of the many old camps used by Patton's troops...

 Another geocache...

This was the last cache of the day and Earl, Allison, Steve and I hunted and hunted for this small geocache...

Bob and Sue arrived...

...and within seconds, Bob found it...sheesh! Good job, Bob! The canister was hidden inside a dead branch (Ocotillo, I think).

We were back home at 4:30...another great afternoon out on our ATVs geocaching! After putting our stuff away, we sat outside enjoying the late afternoon sun...for about 20 minutes before it went down behind the mountains.

Unfortunately, Steve's quad has developed a leak in a bushing above the power steering so will need to be taken in for repair. Bob recommended taking it to a shop he has used in Lake Havasu 75 miles away. Steve called them however they are booked up but we will drop it off next week before we fly home for Christmas.
