Sunday, October 14, 2012 (Travel to Lone Rock Campground, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Utah)

It was a beautiful sunny morning as we pulled out of the OHV area near Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park...and we didn’t get stuck in the sand...whew!  We decided to go back into the State Park, pay $6 and use their sani-dump before we headed back to highway 89 south.

The short-cut road back to the highway was a little bumpy with uneven spots on it but with little traffic, we were able to move over to the other lane when needed.

Once back on the highway, we encounted more beautiful scenery...

I particularly like the sign on the side of the highway that says "ATV X-ing"...too cool.

We drove through the tourist little town of Kanab...judging by the number of hotels and motels, I'd say that it is a busy little place in the summer...

Then we continued on highway 89 south through lovely southern Utah...we just love the countryside, it's so diverse...

We stopped at a visitor's centre, run by the Bureau of Land Management in Big Water, Utah.  They gave us some great information about the Lake Powell/Page, AZ area and suggested a campground where you can drive right on the beach and camp.

The campground is called Lone Rock and is on Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

I must say that I was a little leary of driving our rig onto the beach because we had gotten stuck in the sand at the OHV area at Coral Pink Sand Dunes...but once we pulled in and spoke to the Campground Host, it didn't sound too bad...and there were lots of big rigs down there.  He said that we would have no problems as long as we followed his directions on the correct road to take.  The spot is just beautiful!

We found a spot, unhitched and unpacked enough just so that I could fix us some lunch.  We thought we would go right into Page, Arizona...about 10 miles further along Highway 89...and get groceries.

We had no problems finding the Super Walmart and after stocking up, we were on our way back to the beach to finish our setup.  Here I am trying to pay for our camping at the automated fee station at the entrance to the campground...$10/night.  Steve finally got out of the truck and told me that I was putting my credit card in backwards...sheesh!!

Ahh...finally time to relax and enjoy the view!

The sun setting on the mountains...of course, the picture just doesn't do it justice...
