I got up at 5:00 this morning...the wind was just howling,
keeping me awake as the trailer shuttered with each gust. When the sun came up, it revealed clear skies
so it was at least sunny all day...just very windy.
The first thing we did this morning (after coffee,
exercises, breakfast and showers) was walk over to the office to book our train
tour for tomorrow. We also decided to
include a bus tour of the rim while up there.
We’re looking forward to it.
Back home, Steve took some pictures of the RV Park while I
went inside to get started on my day of housecleaning and laundry.
While I was doing my thing inside, Steve was doing his thing
outside...he’s been having problems with one of the tire sensors and after
trying a new battery in it (that didn’t work) and testing it, he determined
that it was defective. There is a two
year warranty on it so now we have to contact the manufacturer.
It was after 2:30 when we both had finished all of our work
and decided to go for a walk. We needed
to go over to the train depot to pick up our tickets, so we thought that we
would check out the rest of the resort facilities. We walked over this cool bridge...they also already have their Christmas decorations out.
This is the train loading area...interesting bench...
Steve picking up our tickets...
Big gift shop...
This historic train has been running to the Grand Canyon since 1901...
This is the back of the hotel...
...and the inside...beautiful lobby...
After checking out the pool/hot tub/exercise area, we left the hotel through the front doors...
After our tour of the Grand Canyon Railway facility, we decided to walk over to the main street of Williams...which also happens to be the historic Route 66...
We wandered down the historic district of Willliams...all sorts of memorabilia...
This looks like a nice restaurant ("wine bar" on the sign caught my eye!)...
Nadine, this is for you :)...
There is even a microbrewery...The Grand Canyon Brewery...
After wandering both sides of the street (in the wind!), we decided to go into this rather obscure bar..."The World Famous Sultana Bar". It turned out to be the oldest still operating (as a bar) in the US. The bartender was very interesting, telling us about the building. The current owners late husband was a hunter...all the stuffed animals were his pride and joy.
She took us into the historic theater...it is now rented out for parties and receptiions (her daugher had her reception here)...
We had a great time in the bar, talking to some other tourists that had come in...and then after we were finished our drink, we headed home. We're so glad that we decided to stop in Williams...a very cool little town!
