As we pulled into the sani-dump, this unusual vehicle was just finishing up. Steve spoke briefly to the couple and found out they are from the Netherlands...
We said goodbye to the camp host, Grizz, and his dogs and were on our way, taking highway 89 south. Less than five minutes down the road we entered Arizona and gained an hour...so it was now only 9:30! Our ETA in Williams is 1:00 p.m. It was a beautiful travel day...
After passing through Page Steve said that the truck didn't seem to have much power. We were barely doing 50 in a 65 mph zone. He wondered if we got bad fuel when we filled up yesterday. After quite awhile he realized that we were bucking a strong head wind and we had been steadily climbing a deceivingly long incline that didn't look as steep as it was.
Such diverse changes in the countryside as we travelled south...
San Francisco Peaks...
At Flagstaff, we took I-40 west...
Williams is about 30 miles west of Flagstaff...we took exit 163 and entered the town...
It was close to 1:30 when we arrived at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park, part of the large Grand Canyon Railway facility that has a hotel, RV Park, restaurant, pub as well as the train depot.
Although still sunny out, there was a big temperature change from Lake Powell, mainly due to the wind...it was just howling! After checking in at the office, we were directed across the street to the RV park and pull-through site #231. It is a typical private RV Park with just a narrow strip of "decorative gravel" between sites. But is has full hook-ups, laundry facilities, wi-fi, (and we also have access to the hotel's pool) and being a Passport America park, the price is right ($19.50 + tax).
After getting unhitched and the sliders out, the first thing I did was get the vacuum out and give the inside a thorough cleaning...so much dust and sand! Steve continued with his normal setup outside...he anchored down the satellite tripod with one of the blue 5 gallon water containers...hopefully it stays put in this wind!
It was after 4:00 by the time we were all finished...time to relax inside...out of the wind. Tomorrow we will do some chores around here and then take the train up to the Grand Canyon Wednesday...really looking forward to that!
