Sunday, October 21, 2012 (Lone Rock Campground, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon National Rec Area, Utah)

The day started with a beautiful sunrise but as the morning progressed, a lot of broken cloud was moving in.  Since we are leaving tomorrow, we drove the short distance to a Sinclair station and fuelled up with diesel...$4.30/gallon.  When we got back, I packed a lunch for us while Steve got the boat ready...we are going to take it out for one final ride.

Shortly after 11:30 we headed out on the lake.  By this time the clouds were increaseing but it wasn’t solid cloud, so that was good.  It was much chillier than the last time we were out on the lake, though (of course, I hadn't bothered to bring a jacket).

A couple of houseboats pulled up on a beach...

We stopped for our lunch on a beach that was actually at the end of a spit.  We realized this when we noticed kayakers and jet-skis coming out of what looked like a small bay.  That is what is interesting about the lake, there are all sorts of small canyons that you don’t realize are there until you get really close.

After lunch, we thought we would go check out the spot where the other boaters were coming out...

...and lo and behold...

...it went back into a nice little bay...a jet-ski passed us and went up on the beach...

We're on our way out now...

We found another channel to explore...

We went to the end and turned around...

And we're home...we were absolutely amazed how many rigs had pulled out while we were gone.

We were out almost two hours, so the boat motor got another good workout.  Once we were back, the clouds basically cleared...figures...just in time to start loading all of our toys!  It was hot while we loaded the boat back on the truck and Steve emptied everything out of the truck.  He is going to sweep all the sand out before loading the quads...but that proved to be one heck of a job...the sand sticks to everything and gets rock hard when it drys.

It was almost 4:00 by the time everything was all packed away...time for a swim...and of course, the clouds had returned!  I was bound and determined to go in for a swim but I must admit that it was much more inviting when the sun was blazing.  It was actually the hottest afternoon since we arrived, going up into the mid 70’s/20’s in the shade....and much, much hotter in the direct sun!

It was a beautiful evening...and actually one of the warmest...

Lots of room on the beach tonight...
