We made our way back to highway 1 and continued towards the US Border.
Beautiful fall colours....
About 15 minutes later we crossed the St. Croix River and arrived at the border crossing...
The female border crossing guard was professional and very nice...with questions that mainly centred around the amount of time we've already spent in the US this calendar year. After checking inside the box of the truck and going in the trailer, she returned our passports and welcomed us to the USA.
Again, Serena, our GPS, took us on a rather odd route, instructing us to take a rather narrow secondary highway towards Ellsworth (a larger community just outside of Bar Harbor)...
Interesting display of tractor seats...
A little road construction, of course....
Mt. Desert Narrows...
As we approach Acadia National Park...
We arrived at Bar Harbor Campground early...around noon...because it does not take reservations. It's also cash only...very unusual. They were very welcoming at the office, giving us a map and suggested sites that they thought would be good for us, but they basically told us that we can take any unoccupied site, set up and then return to the office to let them know what site you are in and pay for it.
We started with a very unlevel pull-through site and then noticed an easy access back in just down from it, so we moved there. Unfortunately, the sites are extremely unlevel...so with no luck using just the ramps, Steve ended up having to dig a bit of a hole on one side. We eventually got level, unhitched and then had to bring the front of the trailer way down just to get level front to back. We just don't understand why campground owners develop sites that aren't even close to being level!
The good news is that Steve latched onto a satellite signal
right away in spite of all of the trees. We had planned on driving back into Ellsworth to Verizon and
Walmart for shopping but it was a long frustrating afternoon….it will have to wait until tomorrow.
Hopefully that damn bolt is fixed for good since you have had your appointment at Elkhart.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's fixed...."for good" remains to be seen...
