Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, 2018 (Duncan RV Repairs, Elkhart, Indiana)

We woke up Friday morning much more refreshed...it's good to be back on our own bed! By 8:00 we were ready to pull the slides in...ready for Bill to tow the trailer back into the service bay.

First on the agenda today was to go to Dan's Hitch and have the repaired hitch head put back in the truck. It took them a long time...something about having to go get a different socket. They were finally finished around 11:00 and then we headed off to Costco. We had lunch there, picked up a few things and then found an Ace Hardware to get some extra bolts for the slide room...just in case!

Before returning to Duncan RV, we stopped at an RV surplus store and had a look around. Nothing that great there.

We were back at about 3:00 and had an update from Bill...they now have all the materials to replace the bent frame assembly on the big slide, so work on the slides will start Monday. After that, Bill towed us back to the campground to get set up for the weekend...of course, it started pouring out just as he got it backed into the site. It was a quick, wet set-up outside for Steve!

Saturday morning Guy and Sue picked us up just after 9:00 and we headed off to Auburn, Indiana, about an hour and a half away. They had told us about a car museum...the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum...and we were lucky enough to be invited to go see it with them.

Wow...these cars are a work of art! 1932 Cord...

Guy and Sue out for a spin!

Note the suspension using a strap coiled up in that chrome housing. We saw others that were made of leather...

Note the comfortable looking seats...

Steve started out taking pictures of each vehicle...
...but then soon realized...
...there were far more here than he thought...
...and it was a two story building!
What an incredible museum! Far too many pictures to post, but if you're car guy/girl and are interested in seeing more pictures of these fabulous vehicles, click on the album Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.

There is still another museum in an adjacent building to see....but first lunch! We asked at the museum and Mad Anthony Taproom was recommended. We managed to find it and enjoyed lunch and a brew...
Next tour...the National Auto and Truck Museum...

And again far too many vehicles to list individually with descriptions...

Steve saw one of these on an RV Show...
Snow Blower...

This was a prototype and many of it's parts are one of a kind...

Note the drivers in some of these vehicles...

Guy used to be a cop back in the day...

It was after 4:00 when we decided it was time to head home. That museum had been very interesting too, but totally different from the one we saw this morning. Again far too many pictures to post...but if you're interested in seeing more click on the album National Auto and Truck Museum.

It got cold, wet and windy as we headed back to Elkhart...even had some sleet and snow mixed in with heavy rain...Yikes!
It was going on 6:00 by the time we got back to Duncan RV. What a fabulous day...thanks so much for letting us tag along, Guy and Sue!

We were so fortunate to run into three couples we knew that were also passing through Elkhart. It was great spending one on one time, too, getting to know them better as we have only met some in a group setting.

  4. Wow look at you guys go on the blog posts! Love those old cars and the truck museum. Those early luxury cars were all about status. Beautiful machines....except the Tasco. That was a miss in my books. Good work!
