Saturday and Sunday, August 9 and 10, 2014 (Tunkwa Lake Campground, Tunkwa Provincial Park, Logan Lake, BC)

Well, if you've been following our blog and noticed a flurry of updates, then you will know what we did today. Yes, we drove into Logan Lake and I sat in the hotel coffee shop for about 3 hours using their internet.

Steve dropped me off just before 10:30 and I went in to get started while he went to get propane, beer and fresh water. A short while later, he joined me...and there we sat until almost 2:00! We did have lunch there, though.

Back home, I resumed my spot in my chair outside reading...Steve pulled out one of his magazines and did a little reading too. Then he brought out the bedroom TV and we sat outside again watching the evening news.

We had a light dinner outside and as the evening progressed, Steve decided to bring out the Camp Fire In A Can...and there we sat, watching TV outside (I was also reading) with a campfire...that was a first!

We stayed outside until about 10:00 and then packed it in. There was a "super moon" tonight and we wanted to stay up to see it...which we heard prime viewing would be at 10:44. Well, it looked just like an ordinary bright moon to me....hmmmm....

We woke to a clear sky Sunday morning...looks like it's going to be a hot one. After our usual start, we did our resistance exercises and after showers and breakfast, Steve headed outside to attempt a little repair work on the underbelly of the trailer. First of all, though, he went up on the roof to take a panorama picture...
Tunkwa Lake left and Leighton Lake right... (Click any picture to enlarge)

He had noticed that a part of the plastic underbelly had come loose and wanted to seal it back up until he could get it done properly. It was in a very awkward spot behind the wheels but he managed a temporary fix...it may not last but for now, it's sealed back up.

Heads on both screws are broken off. The shinny one is against the frame the other is rusted to the frame. Vise grips and WD40 didn't work and no room for his drill...

Access was cut into the plastic underbelly when the centre hanger and frame were straightened after our Alaska trip last summer. Tape is coming off...

And the temporary patch job...Steve doesn't have much faith in the duct tape holding because the plastic underbelly is quite warped in various spots. We plan on going to Harmon Lake tomorrow which involves a 9 km gravel road so we want to keep as much of the dust out of our home as possible...

After that was done, he decided that since the Campfire-In-A-Can was still out that he would clean it. For some reason, it gets quite sooty no matter what position the air shutter is in...hmmm...something we should probably ask the manufacturer about.

While Steve was doing all his work, I washed the dishes then baked some trail bars and a walnut-raisin loaf. We like to have something with our early morning coffee...and quite often with tea in the evening...and if I don't have any baking available, we end up eating granola bars. Not only does it end up being a lot of granola bars that we eat but also a lot of ingredients that we really don't need. At least with doing my own baking, I know what's in it!

The "work" was all done by noon...and it was back to "resuming position" in our chairs outside...reading and/or snoozing...well, until about 2:00. That is when we decided to go out for a walk...nothing like picking the hottest part of the day (mid 30's C) to go out and chase down a couple of geocaches in the area!

We found the first one relatively easy...

The second one was about half a km...or a third of a mile (as the crow flies) away. It ended up being a little more difficult. After trying a path that went up and away from the lake, we got about 54 metres/178 feet away and then the GPS said it was to the right off the path. Well, there was no way were getting down the cliff through all the fallen trees.

So we backtracked and found another less travelled path along the lakefront....

After crawling up and over...and under...dead tree branches, we finally found it. (Much of the BC forests have been decimated by the Pine Beetle) It must have been placed before all of the windfalls had covered the trail in. We met another geocacher who had just found the cache and was back looking for her camera lens cap. She had found a little easier way in, so we followed her out. She had torn the butt of her shorts on one of the branches and was quite embarrassed about it...too funny!

Needless to say, we were exhausted and hot by the time we got back to the trailer...definitely time for a bottle of water and some relaxation in the shade!
