Friday, August 22, 2014 (Peter Hope Lake Recreation Site, Quilchena, BC)

Steve was out on the lake shortly after 8:00 this morning...chasing that illusive "big one"! Well, actually any size fish will do...he hasn't had much luck fishing this lake. Perseverance, I guess....and finding that right fly! He has spoken to folks here and received lots of tips.
While he was out, he took some pictures. This is the channel from Peter Hope Lake to Little Peter Hope Lake...

While he was out fishing, I updated our blog...still a fairly decent internet signal...fingers crossed that it stays with us! After the kitchen was cleaned up, I settled down in the sun with my book.

Once Steve was back in and had had his breakfast, we went out for a walk to search for a couple of geocaches in the area. We hunted and hunted for the first one but finally gave up and headed off for the second one...I'll have another go at it another time.

The second geocache was about a half kilometre (a third mile) away on the other side of the lake. So we started walking along the road until we found a trail that went in the right direction. I managed to pick up these sticky little things along the way. I had to wait until we got back to camp where I used tweezers to pull them off...

After a bit of a search, we found the second cache in a fake birdhouse (the geocache was put out by Ducks Unlimited)...

A great view of the island with the cabins on it...

Then it was time to head back...

We learned this morning, as one of the campground facilitators took down the signs, that the campfire ban had been lifted. It was rather surprising...we didn't expect that to happen until well after the September long weekend. But we weren't complaining! So once back from our walk, Steve gathered his gloves and ear protection and went over to Ray and Deb's...he and Ray were going to get a load of firewood. They got the wood near Little Peter Hope Lake....he took a picture of the campsite there...

Deb and Ray's daughter and her husband (from Sasakatoon, Sask.) arrived at about 3:00, much earlier than expected. We left them to have their family time but joined them around their campfire after dinner. It's so nice having a "real" campfire! We enjoyed meeting Kristi and Jason and chatting with them all but called it a night shortly after 9:00. They had had a long drive (from Edmonton) today and we were all actually quite tired....we don't stay up very late anymore! Relaxing in bed watching TV/reading sounded like a good idea!
