Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12 and 13, 2016 (Old Hedley Road East Recreation Site, Hedley, BC)

I woke up shortly before 6:00 after a great sleep...I have no problem getting to sleep, it's staying asleep that is my problem, but last night it wasn't a problem.

With no internet, we spent our coffee time this morning relaxing in our recliners watching the morning news from Vancouver...and then Kelly and Michael. I also fired up the laptop so that I could write the blog...that way I will just have to copy and paste into blogger, format, add pictures and it will be done. Now if I can just keep that up while we are off the grid...

Around 10:00 we were ready to go our for a walk...bundled up with heavy coats and gloves! Yes, it was a chilly start to the day! We found out that the campground also extends to the other side of the road...much more heavily treed and against a hillside. Our walk took all of about 15 to 20 minutes...then we were back inside with the heater on, warming up.

Other than baking some muffins and recording some budget receipts, all I did for the whole day was crochet. Steve started a new book and spent the day reading and napping. The sun tried breaking through a couple of times and we sat outside for a bit but when the wind came up...and what sun had been peeking through disappeared, we went back inside.

At 4:00 we decided to sit outside with the campfire-in-a-can and enjoy our happy hour...

Wednesday morning we headed off for a drive. Doug and Sue had told us of a store, Doug's Homestead Gourmet Meats that sells fresh pepperoni and beef jerky, along with lots of other fabulous meats and cheeses...a spot you must stop at when driving through the area. We passed it on our way through Monday but it was closed (Mondays and Tuesdays), besides it's not often easy to stop at roadside markets when towing.
It was just a short distance back towards Hedley...and our first stop this morning...
I've never seen so many flavours of pepperoni! The friendly staff were more than willing to give us samples to try and after tasting a bunch, we decided on regular and honey garlic...purchasing a few sticks of each. They have a game when you buy the pepperoni...they weigh it and give you the cost of one stick and then if you guess what the total cost isl, to the penny, you get it free. I guessed $9.89...it was $9.75. Pretty close but not close enough! We bought the pepperoni, some beef jerky, brats and a pound of ground beef...and left the friendly little market. A very cool spot that is basically "in the middle of nowhere" on highway 3, just west of Hedley.

After our little shopping trip, we continued east, back to Hedley. We had driven through it Monday, but thought we'd go check it out a bit more. We stopped at the Visitor Information Centre but unfortunately it was closed...it hadn't opened up yet for the season.

Then we took a drive through Hedley...
 The main street...

A World War I Memorial in the middle of the street....
 Interesting home...

Not much to downtown...

On our way home, we passed our campground, deciding to check out the other campground that is a little further down Old Hedley Road (There are two campgrounds...Old Hedley Road East...and West)...
Like the "East" campground, it is on the Similkameen River but is much more heavily treed which would make it difficult to maneuver through. The sites are also much smaller...in other words, we like where we are much better...
Once home, we had lunch and then had a repeat of yesterday afternoon...Steve reading/napping and me, crocheting (I sure made good progress on my crocheting...too bad that I'm not going to have enough yarn to finish it. Oh well, I've had lots of practice figuring out the pattern so I'm ready to start it again once I get new yarn)

Late afternoon, Steve took down the solar panels and put the barbecue and chairs away. We had already hitched the trailer back up to the truck when we had gotten home. We're leaving tomorrow...this has been a nice, relaxing stop but there really isn't much to do in the area. Time to move on.
