Saturday was a pretty lazy day. We did manage to get out for a walk around the campground. The Tamihi OHV staging is across the road, so we took a walk over to take a look. They were just starting to build this the last time we were here...
There is a Camp Host and several campsites along one side...This is as large as many staging areas we've been to in the U.S.
He tried many times to ride the barrier but always veered to the right...
Kids playground...
We aren't alone anymore...the riverfront sites are full...
After our walk, we pretty well just chilled the rest of the day. It's pretty chilly out but sun and warmth are in the forecast starting tomorrow. We sat outside...Steve reading and me crocheting. Steve also had his camera ready...every afternoon Chilliwack River Rafting comes by. This guy came by about an hour before the rafts...probably scouting out the route for obstructions plus with the snow melt the water levels change daily...
It's amazing how stable these kayaks are...
Here they come!
The kayaker is yelling at the yellow rafts to lookout for that log...
If you've never tried this you should give it a try...it's a blast! This was one of Steve's bucket list items we knocked off in 2011. We rafted the Elk River in Fernie BC back on August 12, 2011 but waited for the raftig company pictures (since we weren't able to take our own camera), so check out our September 11, 2011 blog.
Sunday morning we packed a lunch and headed off to see Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park...about 30 kms/18 miles further along Chilliwack River Road. We were surprised at the amount of traffic...the area is obviously very popular for folks from all around the Fraser Valley wanting to get out for a taste of nature on a beautiful sunny Sunday. Yes, sunny...as predicted, the sun and warmer temps were on their way!
When we arrived at the entrance to the park, we found the gate closed...of course, it was only mid-April and the provincial park wasn't yet open for the season. We parked on the road outside, with other parked vehicles, and walked in...about 3/4 of a mile or so. We went right down to the lake...
WOW! stunning views...We watched this fellow launch his kayak and head out for a peaceful paddle on the lake...
A huge log along the beach....
And some very big mossy trees...
Our timing was perfect...we enjoyed the tranquility of the lake and then headed back to the truck as carloads of people were walking down to the lake.
On our way back, we thought we'd try to find somewhere to stop to eat our lunch. We had passed a sign to Pierce Lake. It was a parking lot with a trailhead...so we thought we'd take our cooler and find the lake. Well, luckily we spoke to a couple of girls who had just returned to their car...Pierce Lake was actually a whole day's hike up a mountain. Ok, well that's not happening! There were some falls a short hike in...so we put the cooler back in the truck and went for a bit of a hike. It was a heavily treed area and once we got there, the falls really weren't much. We turned around and made our way back down to the truck...and headed back home.
Back home, we ate our packed lunch...and sat outside enjoying the sunshine....ahhh...warmth again!
you are a blogging machine today!! We went to Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park a few years back...nice park with a multitude of different sized camping spots..
ReplyDeleteat least you have some entertainment with the rafters..no internet but at least here is something to watch!
