It was a mostly cloudy day with a bit of sunshine in the morning.
Lovely view looking east as we climb up out of Princeton...
And what would a travel day be without a section of road construction...reminded us of our trip to Alaska...
They are straightening the highway...
I had forgotten how much climbing is involved on this route...we were up into the snow...
Sunshine Valley...
Hope Slide...
Wow...look how green it is...
There is a nice big sani-dump at the Heritage Park in Chilliwack...unfortunately, there is no potable water there though. So after dumping the tanks, we stopped at the Husky Travel Centre to fill up with fresh water and then continued to Tamihi Creek Recreation Site on the Chilliwack River.

The turnoff to the campground is across the bridge on the right...
Chilliwack River...
We pulled into the small Tamihi Creek East Campground, parked and walked to the main Tamahi Creek West Campground...just thought we'd make sure there was a site large enough for us. It has been a few years since we have been here and there are only a few sites along the river that we would fit into. The rest of the campground is heavily treed with a narrow road...typical of most BC recreation sites.

As it turned out, all sites along the river were open...we decided on site 32, and on our way back, stopped at the camp host to ensure it was available and that we could have it for the next 6 nights. There are a small number of sites that can be reserved...as it turned out, we were fine for all nights, so we walked back to get the rig. The fee is $15/night...with no services at all, other than garbage bins and pit toilets. They only accept cash...our total for the 6 nights would be $90 and we only had $70. If we wanted to ensure that it would not be reserved, we would have to pay for all 6 nights...but luckily, he accepted our $70 and we could pay the $20 owing tomorrow after we go into town.
We got leveled off, unhitched and set up. Our site is at the end of the row with a large grassy area beside it which makes it the best site along the river. The other sites along the river are quite narrow...basically "awning to awning", taking advantage of the popular riverside. All sites along the riverfront are empty right now (except us) but come the weekend, they will be full.
The river clarity is very clear compared to the Similkameen...beautiful, but very noisy!
It was after 3:00 by the time we were all finished setting up...time to get out for a walk around the campground for a little exercise. The campground is actually quite large with the remaining sites (away from the riverfront) in the trees off a narrow windy road. But very nice...in a rustic way, if you don't need any sun for your solar panels or don't mind if you can't get a satellite signal...and you don't mind not getting much sunshine. Of course, we neglected to take any pictures of the actual sites.
There's our rig way down there at the end...
The Chilliwack River, like the Similkameen River, is running very fast...however, we have seen a number of .people fishing along the shore. I think Steve will have to give it a try...perhaps he'll be able to find a calmer pool.
This is also a big ATV area with tons of trails...I think we will be off-loading the quads sometime during our stay and check them out.
Oh...I forgot to mention, there is no cell/internet signal here...Sheesh!

Seems to be a pattern with this week's journey ...nice to be offline at least for a short time !!
ReplyDeleteAwesome looking spot other than the no cell and internet service. You looked a bit chilly in some of those pictures!
