Wednesday, January 14, 2015 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

We went on a long quad ride today...so this blog post has tons of pictures (just a warning!) Remember to click on the photos to enlarge.

We all met over at Bob and Sue's place at 9:30...and shortly afterwards, we were off. Bob, Art, Steve and I were on our quads and Sue and Vince were in their RZR's.

We stopped at the Paradise Pet Cemetery...there I am on the left searching for a geocache...

We continued on west on the north side of Cunningham Mountain...

Next stop was at the Magic Footprint (there is a geocache there but we found it a couple of years ago)...

After a short break, we continued on the road...

...until we came to a trail that goes south. Everyone is waiting at the bottom of the hill at the start of the trail...

And so started the trail that has been dubbed "the road to hell". There are three geocaches that have been placed along the trail. The description, as noted on Geocaching.com, describes the trail as..."Only highly experienced atv or utv riders should attempt this trail. The challenge is extreme. Rock washes, boulders and parts of actual trail in critical disarray..." Interesting...this is the third time we have ridden this trail...

The location of the first geocache...
Found it! (Sue, Bob and me)

This is the worst spot we had to go through. I decided to let Steve take my quad through it for me even though I have done it a few times before. When it was Sue's turn, Bob stood on the side of her RZR...

Vince in his RZR...

Art's turn...

And finally Steve...

The whole canyon is pretty rocky...

Our next stop was at a wildlife watering hole...
And another geocache...

While here, a group of about 8 motorcyle riders came in and stopped for a break. It was very interesting to see a group of older folks including women (like our age...LOL) riding motocross bikes. By now, most have opted for 4 wheels...

An old mine building just before Cinnabar Mine...

And finally, Cinnabar Mine...(click here for an article on its history)

And we're off...time to head home!

Kofa in the background...

We wanted to be home no later than 4:00 to give us time to put our stuff away and get cleaned up a bit before going out for dinner at 5:00...and it was exactly 4:00 when we pulled in!

About 45 minutes later, we were joining Red and Pam for the drive to Silly Al's Pizza. A bunch of RV-Dreamers in the area are getting together...there will be more gatherings over the next couple of weeks but Ruth and Dale are leaving Monday and thought dinner at Al's was a great idea!

Ruth and Dale...(NWescapee)
Donna and Alan...(Fergizmo)
Dave and Diane...(Hdrider)
Pam and Red...(el Rojo and Pam)
Debbie and Dave (friends of Gina's from Texas)...
Gina and Louise...
Tom and Cheryl...
Steve and I...
And a couple of group shots...

We had a great evening but it was so busy and noisy inside the restaurant that you could hardly hear each other! With the RV Show starting this Saturday, Quartzsite is just hopping! Pam got the four of us home safe and sound...thanks for being our "DD" tonight, Pam!

Once home, we noticed our neighbor, Brian, had a huge campfire going, so Red and Steve joined them for awhile. Pam and I called it a night and headed inside our respective trailers.
Looks like a great end to the day!

  1. Looked like a good time at Silly Al's! Barb and I have been discussing options on how to get our 4 wheeler to Quartzsite next year...... Are flags required on all wheelers?

    1. Yes Jim...you must find a way. There is so much back country exploring to do with this lifestyle. Flags are required for safety.
