Friday to Wednesday, March 15 to 20, 2019 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

We were up early Friday morning and on the road to Parker by 8:15. After a stop at Click It Computers to pick up the new power cord, we stopped for a few groceries and were back home by noon.

After lunch, Steve continued working on the window seals while I worked out a blog update. Next thing we knew it was time to get ready for tonight's happy hour and campfire/hot dog roast.

At 4:00, John and Laura, Red and Pam and Steve and I gathered at the communal firepit. About 15 minutes later, we received a text from Claude and Theresa...they are here, so Steve jumped on his quad and headed over to lead them over. They, along with friends they met in Florida, Mike and Judy, are staying across the highway at La Posa Tyson Wash.

Claude contacted us last year through RVillage.com and we met them for coffee in Cochrane, Alberta. They, too, were travelling across Canada...and then down the eastern seaboard to Florida, and are now on their way back up to Canada.

We had a great time around the campfire chatting and catching up with them on their travels...and roasting our hot dogs...Red, Pam, Laura, John (standing), Claude, Theresa, Mike, me (by the truck) and Judy (at the table)...
Mike, Judy, Red, Pam, Steve, Laura, John, Claude and Theresa...
After a great evening, we called it a night around 9:00...and a beautiful sunset to end the day...
Saturday (Mar. 16) was a warm (79F/26C) day but breezy. Steve dropped me off at Mainstreet Laundry and then headed off to run some errands, then stopped at the RC Hanger to say goodbye...45 minutes later we were on our way back home. I basically spent the remainder of the afternoon hanging laundry on the clothesline...taking it off once dry and putting more up.

Steve continued his trailer maintenance...today he was resealing a couple of the slides...
Steve has been using Proflex RV Sealant  and really likes it. The only negative is it tends to skin over quickly so you have to be fast, and don't do it on a windy day. He absolutely hates using silicone as it's time consuming to remove and almost impossible to get it all off. Proflex is like a rubber...once you start removing it you can just pull, and it comes off in a strip...little to no scraping!
A very bizarre thing happened during our happy hour today. We (Red, Pam, John and Laura and us) were sitting chatting under our awning and sunscreen when we heard what we thought was a drone flying over as we've seen one here several times. Just as we were getting up to check it out, a huge swarm of bees buzzed by near our truck! It really took us by surprise! Dave and Steve heard the same sound when we were at the Castle Dome Mine and Ghost Town but they didn't see anything.

Sunday (Mar. 17) was another beautiful warm day...temps up into the low 80's! Today we are going on our last ride of the season...but first we said goodbye to Laura and John, they are leaving today. So glad you made time to stop by and see us...all the best in the rest of your travels...stay safe!
We headed off just before 9:30 with Red and Pam, to meet Claude and Theresa by the gatehouse at La Posa Tyson Wash. Steve's in the lead and I'm the tail gunner...we have radios on our helmets so we stay in touch in case anyone gets into trouble. No GoPro pics as this ride is on a previous blog...

We took the trails through to the stone cabin near Dome Rock and after stopping for a short break...
...we carried on, crossing the highway at the Dome Rock overpass...and headed towards Diablo Pass. Yes, we are doing that ride again. Red/Pam and Claude/Theresa climbing to the top of Diablo Pass...
And me...

Red/Pam left, and me in the distance...
Pam and Red...
Theresa and Claude...
That's me!

I'm bringing up the rear...
Love that ride...and never tire of it! Red and Pam carried on home to check on Cody, who was in their trailer on this hot day...while Claude, Theresa, Steve and I stopped at Beer Belly's for a beer. The season is winding down there too...they close on Thursday, or whenever the beer runs out...no Coors Light left!
We parted ways with Claude and Theresa in La Posa West...as they head home to Tyson Wash. Great spending the day with them...they said they'd pop over to say goodbye before we leave on Thursday.

Once home, we changed and sat outside in the shade behind the trailer. Red and Pam joined us and we had a great few hours chatting...such a beautiful evening!

Monday (Mar. 18), we both got up after having a terrible sleep...Steve thinks maybe 3 hours for him! It was the start of our cleaning and pack up...it was also the hottest day we have had so far...85F/29.5C! Of course it's getting hot now that it's time to leave!

But before getting started on the work, Steve wanted to get one last flight in. With the lack of sleep, he had a bad feeling but this would be his only opportunity before leaving...wind is in the forecast. He was practising circuits and landing but with the early morning sun very low on the flight path at the end of the runway he lost sight of his plane in the sun. Next thing he saw was his plane taking a nose dive into the ground! Being a little on the slow side this morning he said he should have switched to beginner (safe) mode from experienced mode...although close to the ground it may have saved the plane. Hopefully it has another rebuild in it...now to reorder all the parts he just previously repaired his plane with:(
Just as Steve returned, sleepy head Red drove up with his repaired plane, so off they went...
It was a short flight...picking up the pieces. This was his second flight and crash with this new plane. It's a vertical takeoff and landing plane so he's still learning how to control it...he thinks he has a faulty battery. At least that's his story...just kidding Red (Steve :)
Steve "'pumped and dumped" the holding tanks and took the clothesline down while I cleaned inside and prepared receipts for crossing the border. Then it was time to wash the quads...
As he washed and rinsed his quad, I dried it off...he did the same for me as I washed mine. Once the quads were washed, it was time to wash the "poop-mobile" and prepare it for storage. Thanks again Earl for sharing it!
Today was Red and Pam's wedding anniversary (Happy Anniversary guys!), so we all went to Silly Al's one last time for this season. Colan and Marilyn also joined us...they had returned today after going up to Las Vegas for a rally.  Another great time...enjoying the best pizza, with great friends!
Steve, Marilyn, me, Colan, Pam and Red...
Our view of our site with all the solar lights as we walked back from Red and Pam's. When we got home the trailer was still hot, so we ended up sitting outside with the fantastic fans on full and all of the windows open. We sat out for about an hour...such a beautiful evening!
Tuesday (Mar. 19) was another hot day...and a very busy pack up day! While we were packing up Claude and Theresa stopped by to say goodbye. It was great spending more time getting to know you guys...safe travels and see you next year! Once they left I started collecting all 36 solar lights that outlined our real estate, cleaned them and put them away. Steve cleaned out the back of the truck, and loaded the quads back in...Duck!!!

All loaded...
...and then he re-packed everything else that goes in, on and around the quads. Next was folding up the outdoor mat and sunscreen and storing them away...as well as the trailer tire covers. Finally Steve climbed on the trailer roof to clean and put the solar panels down.

Totally pooped and hot, Steve had a shower and then went over to Red and Pam's to sit with them in the shade. I had a shower and joined them. Marilyn and Colan did too. As it cooled down, we moved out into the late on again off again afternoon sunshine...
Red grilled burgers for dinner...thanks guys! We enjoyed a beautiful evening together.
We had originally planned to leave Wednesday (Mar. 20) because rain was forecast for Thursday, but the forecast had changed with no rain expected, so we decided to stay one more day. It was also a much cooler day and quite windy.

It was nice to have a more relaxing day after such a busy last 2 days...note to self, better to plan 3 pack up days rather than just 2!

I baked a walnut raisin loaf to have as a snack on our travel days...and also made lunch for tomorrow. Steve figured out and re-programmed the new replacement tire pressure sensor. He took a faulty sensor into the TST vendor at the RV Show and they sent him a free replacement even though it was old. Then he cleaned inside the truck cab.

We went over to Red and Pam's for one last happy hour...they also leave tomorrow. That leaves Colan and Marilyn here by themselves. Marilyn also joined us...as did Colan once he got home.  Steve took a group selfie...unfortunately, he kinda cutoff Marilyn...
The sun came out briefly to light up the mountains...
It cooled down quickly...Steve and I both had to go home and change into warmer clothes. Colan looks comfy! He just had a long bike ride and shower and is training for an 800 mile bike race! Good luck with that Colan!
And that brings our time here at Quartzsite to an end for another season. Lots of good times with good friends inspite of the cool weather and rain! Safe travels everyone...we're already looking forward to next year.

  1. Sad times leaving all those great folks in the desert again but you'll see them again next winter I bet. I talked to Colan about that race... 800 miles on a pedal bike?!?! That's why I bought the Harley for distance like that lol.
