Thursday, March 21, 2019 (Travel to Buttonwillow (Bakersfield), CA)

After big hugs, we said goodbye to Red and Pam....safe travels and we'll see ya'll next year...and pulled out of our spot on the desert that has been home for the last few months. We made our way over to the sani-dump...of course, there were 2 rigs in front of us! Once through there, we pulled over to the water taps and filled a couple of water containers just in case we need it as we travel.
Bye La Posa South LTVA!
After a stop at the Pit Stop for propane, we were finally on the road...leaving Q at 10:30 and heading north to Parker.

We stopped at the new Running Man Truck Stop for diesel $2.80, and then continued across the Colorado River...
California on the left and Arizona on the right...

Taking highway 62...lots of colour!
There's lots of boondocking between Parker and Vidal...

The California Agricultural Inspection Station at the junction of highway 95...where we turned and headed north towards Needles...
The hillsides are covered with purple flowers...

Down we go...
Views from a pull off near Needles where we had lunch...

At Needles we caught I-40 west to Barstow and then highway 58 to Bakersfield. We started seeing Joshua Trees...
You know your gaining elevation when you start seeing these...they grow between 2000 to 6000 feet.
Always get a chuckle seeing this boat...
The landscape has greened up...
 Tehachapi Pass was absolutely beautiful...
 So green!

Railroad below...

Down we go to the valley below...
After a long 8 hour day, we arrived at the T/A Truck Stop just off the I-5 at 6:30 in Buttonwillow, which is is west of Bakersfield. In years past we always stayed at the Walmart in Bakerfield on Rosedale but had an unpleasant stay with security calling the cops on us...click here to read about it.

We settled on a spot with no parking on our driver's side so that we could put out the bedroom slide out and not be in the way of any truckers parking. There happened to be a barbecue restaurant across the street...Willow Ranch Restaurant, so we walked over for dinner.
After dinner, we settled in bed for a little TV before calling it a night. We have to get used to these long travel days again if that's ever possible :)

  1. A different path than we took but it looked like a beautiful day you had for travelling. The hills and the valley around Tehahchapi Pass were amazing and of course your pics are spectacular. That was a long day for you two!
