Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28, 2016 (Cochrane, AB)

Friday was another full day. The weather wasn't as nice as it had been yesterday, so we were thankful that we chose the right day to walk around the zoo. At least today, most of our day would be spent in the car.

It was going on 10:00 when we all jumped into the car and headed west along highway 1A towards Canmore.

This is the Ghost Lake Dam...

After a quick stop in Canmore, we continued onto Banff National Park...

We had decided on a picnic lunch, so we went to Two Jack Lake...

We will picnic at the end of that spit...
A beautiful lake and a great spot for a picnic lunch...well, it would have been nicer had the weather co-operated. It was windy and cold as Ken got the Coleman stove fired up to cook hot dogs...

Great view!
We are at the end of the spit...

They must be cold...

See the waterfall...
As we drove around Banff, we were in search of wildlife...we finally saw what we thought was an Elk because of the large antlers, but after reviewing the photo it looks like a deer to Steve...
We stopped to take pictures at a great viewpoint on Tunnel Mountain. That's the magnificent Banff Springs Hotel down there...we'll be checking it out later...

We stopped at the Banff Indian Trading Post where there is a Merman on display...click here for an article about it...weird!

Next 3 photos are the Bow River...

Golf course...It seems all the Elk have been moved from Banff...

Rafts on the right...
We stopped at Bow Falls and got out for a bit of a walk...

Then it was onto the Banff Springs Hotel...

The hotel is huge and I think we walked around the whole thing! You could easily get lost in it...good thing Ken seemed to know his way around...well, for the most part. A very impressive high-end hotel...if only we could afford to stay there! LOL!

Next on the agenda was to find a brew-pub...of course! And the Banff Avenue Brewing Company fit the bill. Too bad we really didn't care for the beer we had.

It started pouring while we were in having our beer....
After a huge down pour as we left Banff, the clouds lightened up and a little blue sky started to peak through as we neared Canmore...and the Three Sisters Mountains...
A Doe and her fawns in a yard just down the road from Ken and Charlene's place...
Wow, what a great day! Banff is a beautiful area...but very busy in the summer months!

Sunday was a pretty quiet day after two full days of sightseeing. We headed out late morning to meet Ken's Dad and his wife for lunch. On the way, he took us through a very exclusive area of huge homes..."oil rich" Calgarians!

We enjoyed a wonderful visit and lunch with Bob and Donna at a golf club close to their home. Thanks for a wonderful time! Unfortunately, we forgot to bring out the camera!

Well, that concludes our time here...tomorrow we are heading west, back into BC. Thanks so much for a wonderful time, Ken and Charlene...we thoroughly enjoyed our visit with you!
