We weren't in any hurry to pack up and get going this morning. Our destination today is only about 40 minutes away and our host, Dave had worked night shift last night and wouldn't be up and available to meet us until about 2 this afternoon. So we had a relaxing morning and then packed up at a very leisurely rate.
It was a few minutes after 1:00 when we pulled out of the campground and said goodbye to St. Paul. It was a lovely day to travel...with big fluffy clouds floating above...
We headed straight east on highway 29...It was a few minutes after 1:00 when we pulled out of the campground and said goodbye to St. Paul. It was a lovely day to travel...with big fluffy clouds floating above...
...then highway 41 north going past Kehiwin Lake...
Just a short delay as we wait for our turn to pass through a bit of road construction...
The landscape is dotted with lakes...
As arranged, Dave met us at "the truck scales" about a kilometre after turning off highway 41 onto highway 28. After greeting each other, he led the way to their place on the outskirts of Bonnyville.
Vezeau Beach on Moose Lake...
The fellow that owns Elk Haven Farms used to own the property now known as Elk Haven Estates...where Dave and Leslie have their place...
And there we are, all set up in their driveway...complete with 30 amp power and water! Dave and Leslie have a gorgeous spot...about 4 acres in a neighbourhood of similar properties. An awful lot of grass to mow, though...it looks like a golf course!
Shortly after we arrived, Leslie arrived home...she had managed to get off work a little early. We got ourselves all settled and then we headed into Bonnyville. On the way, a Doe and her two fawns crossed the road in front of us...
We stopped at the local butcher shop...Hamel's Meat Market, a popular long time butcher store in the area. Excellent jerky, sausage...just to name a couple. We picked out a couple of steaks for dinner (which turned out to be awesome...nothing like Alberta beef!). Then it was time for a little tour of Bonnyville...
Back home, it was time to relax on the deck and get acquainted. They have followed our blog as well as RV-Dreams and plan on full timing in a couple of years when they finally retire...
Enjoying the beautiful views...
Then it was dinner time...Leslie prepared delicious veggies out of her garden while Dave grilled the steak...and poured the wine!
This is Dave's "baby"...
Tomorrow morning, we are off to Muriel Lake for a weekend of quad riding, campfires...and meeting more new friends! Looking forward to it!
What a beautiful stop over at their house with 30amp hook up and everything!
ReplyDeleteIf there is a piece of halibut in the deal we might be willing to host another rig! ;) Actually we had a great time with Steve and Dianne and are looking forward to meeting alot more full-timers once we are on the road. Let us know if you're ever in our area.
