Considering we were parked in a Walmart parking lot last night, it was remarkably quiet and we had a pretty good sleep. Having said that, we were still up by 6:00 and enjoying our morning coffee sitting in our chairs....Steve getting up-to-date on the blogs he follows while I was working on our blog.
We finally decided to get our butts in gear, got cleaned up and then walked over to Walmart to have a quick breakfast at McDonald's (not our best decision...but it seemed like a good idea at the time). Back at the trailer, we pulled the slides in and were on our way. Before hitting the highway, though, we went a little further into town to a Husky station and fueled up with diesel.
So it was going on 10:30 by the time we were finally back on the highway heading south. A bit of a cloudy day today...but still a beautiful drive...
There sure are a lot of bodies of water in Alberta...from lakes to sloughs and marshes, some bigger than others. They decided to just build the highway right through the middle of this lake...
These dot the landscape everywhere as Alberta is an oil producing province...
About two and a half hours later, and zig-zagging along the Alberta highways, we finally start the decent into the badlands...we are getting close to Drumheller now...
Yay...we made it to Drumheller!
We crossed the Red Deer River and drove through town...
About 13 kms past the town, we arrived at our campground...
...The Hoodoos RV Resort and Campground. After researching the campgrounds in the area, we found that the park reviews for them were not very good...mind you, most reviews were fairly old. Come on people...send in reviews of the campgrounds you stay in! Yes, I must include us in that...we rely on the reviews a lot, so we really must make a point of submitting reviews too.
So we decided on The Hoodoos...the price was comparable to others at $45/night for full hook-ups, with the exception of Dinosaur Trail RV Resort which was $60/night and $66 on weekends. We just couldn't see paying that!
As it turned out, the campground is not bad...it has probably the largest sites we've ever seen in a private park...70+ feet long and 45 feet wide...with a very narrow gravel pad to park on and lots of grass. After we got backed in (why can't they angle sites?), we were level, so it was just a matter of chocking up the tires and getting unhitched....and then commencing our set up.
After that was done, we sat outside for a bit. It had gotten quite windy out...Steve managed to get a picture of the dust blowing down the road behind us. Luckily, the wind was coming in the right direction so we were fairly sheltered by the trailer...
We're here until Monday...looking forward to exploring the area! Stay tuned...
So cool the way the landscape goes from grain fields and then drops into the badlands. First time I saw that I had to stop and go back up top. What a change in a short distance. Don't forget about dinner at Sublime down by the big dinosaur....so good. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful area. We passed by Sublime but won't be going. Watching the budget after all those repairs you know. 😳 Thanks for the reminder though.
