Monday morning we met up with Cec and walked down to the office to get our name tags and gate access pass. (Click on photos to enlarge)
She showed us around the main facility complex...there is a main complex plus two satellite complexes. Each complex has a swimming pool, spa, laundry facilities, shower facilities and restrooms. The ballroom is inside this building...
Putting Green...
The main outdoor pools (the resort has four outdoor pools and three outdoor hot tubs)...
...along with one indoor pool and hot tub...
The resort has two lighted tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, along with horseshoes, volleyball, pickleball, putting green, billiards room, library and fitness center. They also have designated areas for crafts, sewing, quilting, ceramics, pottery, wood carving, woodworking, lapidary, zumba and card games.
Shuffleboard...there is a tourney on right now...
Horseshoes...
After our tour, it was time to head to Los Algodones, Mexico and Steve's dental appointment. I took some pictures as we travelled west on I-8. They do a nice job on some of the designs on their overpasses in Arizona...
Colorado River...
We exited I-8 and headed south on Algodones Road (hwy 186). The Quechan Casino Resort is at the junction...
Casino RV parking...
Boondocking area between the Casino and the border crossing...
This is the huge parking lot that we parked in ($8)...
...and then walked across the border...
We were early for his 1:00 appointment so wandered around. Los Algodones is known as the dental capital of the world with over 900 dentists and 300 clinics. There are also lots of pharmacies and optical stores.
We arrived at Bernal Dental Group a little early and while waiting, learned that the other two couples in the waiting room were also from Vancouver Island...one from Qualicum Bay and the other from Sidney...what a small world! The Qualicum couple flew to Vegas, had some fun there, then rented a car and travelled to Yuma and still saved money on their dental vacation! Something to consider....
Steve was taken in about 15 minutes early...that's never happened before! A root canal specialist first inspected the broken tooth and took an X-Ray. Her aunt lives in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island...Wow! She said Steve only had 1 mm between the root and the top of the broken tooth so may require a root canal. Because Steve's dentist in Victoria made no mention of a root canal, he convince Dr. Bernal to proceed without one. If he has pain after the prep work is done, a root canal would be required. Steve took a selfie while waiting for the freezing to take affect...
After preparing the tooth for a new crown, Steve was out in about 45 minutes...we'll have to return tomorrow afternoon to have the crown put in.
There was no wait at the border crossing going back into the USA and we were back at our truck by 2:00. We decided to go further west on I-8 to the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreational Area where there is a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) office. We need to purchase new Non Resident OHV permits for our quads.
Unfortunately, the office is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, however, a camphost said that the Shell station near Pilot Knob BLM sold them....they didn't, so I guess we will have to go back to the BLM office this weekend.
This is the Colorado River as we drove back through Yuma...
After dinner, we walked down to Alan and Cec's...they invited us to join them at the park's Christmas Lighting show. Alan set up flashing Christmas lights on their tree...
We joined Tim and Becky in the ballroom...showing off our name tags
The choir performed traditional Christmas songs...
...along with some comical skits...
Afterwards, coffee/hot chocolate and goodies were served...we took ours outside to enjoy....
We had a lovely evening...the start of the Christmas Season...already! Steve got another shot of Alan and Cec's lit up tree...
Our neighbor's place across the street...very nice!
We had a busy Tuesday morning shopping then fueling up the truck at Fry's ($3.48 per/gallon). It was early afternoon by the time we got home, quickly off-loaded the groceries and then were off back to Los Algodones, arriving shortly after 2:00.
Once again Steve was taken in a few minutes early. He hadn't had any pain after the freezing was gone so a root canal wasn't necessary. 30 minutes later he was out...total cost $270.00. Back in Victoria he was billed $350.00 for a 3D scan and $1850.00 for a crown! Time will tell if he received quality work. However, all-in-all, we were very happy with the experience.
At 6:00, I walked down to meet Cec...we are going to Bingo at the clubhouse tonight. I was amazed at the turnout for Tuesday night Bingo...the clubhouse was full! They have some great payouts...ranging from $100 to $500. We played the 15 games plus the final jackpot round...but alas...both Cec and I went home without any winnings. But it was a great evening...and fun to get out and do something a little different! It was 10:00 by the time I got home...Steve was starting to wonder whether I had been abducted...haha!
Looks like quite the RV Park! We are headed down there for dental work on January 2nd, it is good to hear it went smoothly.
