Well, "Murphy's Law" always being in play for us, it turned out that yesterday would have been the better travel day for us. Yes, we woke to rain. Luckily, it had stopped by the time it was time to pack up. One thing we have noticed as we travel the coast is one minute it is raining...you blink, and the sun is shining...and you blink again, and it's raining...and that's how it was today. When we pulled out of our site, I had my sunglasses on and by the time we had finished at the sani-dump, it had started to rain.
We pulled out of South Beach State Park at 10:10 and continued our scenic drive south along the coast.
We're just coming into the city of Waldport...
Shore Fishers...
This is looking back at the bridge we went over on the way into Waldport...
We're just entering the small community of Yachats...
Can you see the faint rainbow?
Rock Creek Campground turnoff on the left...
Big Creek...
Fifty minutes and 33 miles later, we pulled into Carl G Washburne Memorial State Park. After stopping to chat with the camp host, he recommended sites 6 or 7 as being the best sites with easier access for us. We drove the loop and decided on site 7, a large site with a big "yard". The campground is beautiful but heavily treed making the narrow one-way road a bit of a challenge. This is a much smaller campground than the others we have stayed at but all sites (other than about 6) have full hook-ups (with 50 amp electric) for $26/night (off season). The sites are well spaced with lots of foliage for privacy.
As I was outside directing Steve back into the site, it started raining again, so once we were in, I joined Steve back in the truck and we waited out the heaviest of the rainfall.
Then it was time to get to work...we got unhitched and all set up...and even managed a satellite signal. The only thing we don't have here is a cell/internet signal...oh well...the camphost said that you can get a Verizon signal across the highway at the day-use area.
A big storm with a wind warning is forecast to come in later this afternoon, so after lunch, we went for a walk to the beach. I managed to get a weak internet signal on our Verizon hotspot...enough to update our location on FB and RVillage, so family and friends would know where we were.
This is the trail to the day-use area...
After the beach, we took a walk around the campground. Many of the sites would be large enough for us but being a narrow, one-way road in the trees, it wouldn't be easy for us to maneuver into any of them. The camp host was correct...I'm glad we stopped and chatted with him on our way in.
We sat outside for awhile before retreating inside as it got cooler. We're looking forward to exploring this area...hopefully, the forecast improves, otherwise we'll be doing it in the rain and wind...
Ah ha, one we have never stayed at. By the way, there are some really cool shops in Yachats (pronounced Ya Hats) There is a gift/jewelry shop called the Mystic Frog that is apparently owned by a white witch. I got my Celtic knot ring there once and earrings the next time.
