Highway 5A is a very scenic route...but also very windy...
This is Allison Lake...We had been following this logging truck for some distance and when we caught up to it at the intersection of 5A and 97C, I couldn't help taking a picture of the toothpicks...oops, I mean logs! LOL!
We took Hwy 97C west to Merrit...
We stopped in Merritt to stock up on some groceries and get more gas for the quads and generator (although we really haven't used the generator all that much...with full sunshine, the solar has no problem charging up the batteries).
Once finished in Merritt, we continued west on Hwy 8/97C to where they split and then headed north on 97C towards Logan Lake. Another very scenic drive...
We turned into Logan Lake and stopped at the sani-dump at the edge of town to fill up with fresh water and then backtracked a short distance to head north on Tunkwa Lake Road.
Another beautiful, scenic drive...
This was the only wildlife that we saw on our trip today...there were lots of free range cattle along the roadway...
There are three campgrounds in Tunkwa Provincial Park...Tunkwa on Tunkwa Lake and Leighton and Leighton North both on Leighton Lake. Leighton North has a staging area for ATV's to enter the trails and also allows ATV riding within the campground...guess which campground we chose? LOL! It was 3:30ish when we arrived and after driving the loop we decided on site 1 on the hill above the lake. Although there are lakeside sites, they are spread randomly on the grass and are not at all level especially for a rig our size. It would have been nice to be right on the lake but I actually prefer our site, allowing great water views and we have a defined site. The fee is $16/night...no services other than pit toilets and a well water pump.
As we were unhitching, I happened to look out the truck window and saw this fellow checking us out. There are tons of marmots in this area...very cute...the're the size of a large house cat...
After we were all set up, Steve went for a walk and took a few pictures...
Our rig on the left...
It's quite windy here today but Dave the Park Facilitator said that it isn't usually that bad here...hmmm....we'll see. We're looking forward to Earl and Alison joining us here this weekend for a little fishing and ATV'ing!
Looks like a great campspot! Let us know how the fishing was.
