Monday and Tuesday, July 14 and 15, 2014 (Three Valley Gap, Revelstoke, BC)

Everyone was packing up today...everyone but us, that is. We are staying here for another night or two. We are going to drive into Revelstoke, do laundry...and Steve wants to get his hair cut. Then since the campgrounds that we have researched aren't too terribly far away, we thought we would take a drive out and have a look before towing the trailer.

Before heading into town, we made our rounds saying goodbye to everyone. Most are now heading to Summerland and the ATV/BC Jamboree and AGM. We have decided not to attend, planning on staying in this area for a bit. We've done a lot of ATV'ing and Steve really wants to get out fishing more.

A lot of people left last night and so far this morning, there's not many left...

It was around 9:00 when we headed into Revelstoke. Look at how smokey the air is...apparently there are a number of forest fires burning in the area...
Helicopter rides...to the left of the Chateau...

Bridge over the Columbia River as we enter Revelstoke...

The Columbia River flows from BC to Washington and Oregon States before entering the Pacific Ocean...a long way...

We turned off Hwy 1...into Revelstoke....

Railway Museum...

We stopped at the Visitor's Information Centre where Steve got some ideas for places to get his hair cut. She also told us where the laundromat was located...we had no trouble finding it and just before 10:00, I had our laundry loaded into the machines while Steve headed off in search of a hair cut.

As it turned out, he had to make an appointment for the hair cut...12:15...so it worked out well. The laundry was all done just prior to 11:30...enough time to have a nice lunch! We went to the Grizzly Sports Bar and Grill.

Halibut and Chips and a local brew...very good!

After lunch, Steve headed for his hair cut appointment and I wandered around downtown Revelstoke taking a few pictures....

I met Steve back at the truck...and then it was time to go exploring. We headed north on Hwy 23. Martha Creek Provincial Park is up there on Revelstoke Lake, along with a couple of BC Rec Sites...Carnes Creek and Wadey.

Beautiful scenery!

We decided to go to the furthest one first...Carnes Creek Forestry Service Recreation Site...

We could  have made it into this pull-through site but the turns within the campground were a little iffy. It was up on a cliff overlooking the lake....
 A very nice setting...

We saw an RV parked further up the beach, so we thought we would drive a little further north to check it out. As it turned out, there was another Rec Site...Carnes North. We really quite liked this spot but there would be an issue should other sites be occupied if we returned.  It was fine with only one other site taken but there wasn't enough maneuverability to turn around should we arrive to find the other sites occupied.

On the way back down the highway, we came across this road which is obviously the old highway so we had to take a look...

A very cool spot, but again, there is no way we could turn around if we were towing the fifth-wheel...it was bad enough doing it with just the truck!

More beautiful views as we head south...

Our next stop was at Wadey Rec Site. This was a definite NO! Although a beautiful little spot, it is geared for tents, tent trailers, truck and campers or small Class C motorhomes...definitely not for our size!

Martha Creek Provincial Park was our next stop....
This park was either recently upgraded or newly developed but no thought was put into larger RV's. There are large sites but the roads are narrow and the turns are sharp.
In one section, you had to drive down one way to a narrow turn around loop to access the "pull-through" sites...which were just pull-offs along the side of the road...

 Lots of privacy here...hmmm....

We probably wouldn't make this turn coming from the entrance on the left if we were towing...

Well, that's it for the north side of Revelstoke, we'll take a drive south along Hwy 23 to Blanket Creek Provincial Park.

Revelstoke Dam in the distance...

 Top of the dam...

Columbia River below dam...

Once back in Revelstoke, we figured out where the municipal sani-dump is...and how to access it, should we decided we need it. It's a tricky one to locate. Then we hung a left off Hwy 1, going south on Hwy 23. That's Mount Begbie in the distance...

Blanket Creek Provincial Park is very popular with the "Campground Full" sign out. There are some first come, first serve sites that would likely come available but we really wouldn't fit into any of the sites...or should I say, some of the sites would be plenty big enough, it's the ability to maneuver around the park and back into a site which is the issue. Many of the driveways are narrow with sharp drop offs on both sides.

Swimming Lagoon...Upper Arrow Lake in the distance...

So Blanket Creek is also a definite No...I guess we are going to have to research "plan e" since all of our other plans just went down the tube today! However, I'm sure glad we were close enough to be able to check out all of these campgrounds before we headed to them with the fifth-wheel in tow! At least the scenery was beautiful.

 Upper Arrow Lake...

This is one of the train tunnels along Hwy 1 as we headed back to Three Valley Gap...
 Train Museum Roundhouse...
The Chateau and Historic Ghost Town...

It was after 4:30 by the time we got back to our lonely little gravel pit...we're the only ones left...

We sat outside for a bit...it was too hot inside the trailer...I'll put the laundry away and make up the bed later once it cools down!

Tuesday morning I downloaded pictures and Steve spent a good part of the morning editing...before I could work on the blog. There was a steady stream of workers going up and down the mountain...they started nice and early...5:00 a.m.!

By late morning, Steve was sitting outside with the iPad researching our options of where to go. BC parks are so busy during the summer! While he was doing that, I was inside....yes...working on our blog!

After reading Ray and Deb's blog, Steve discovered that they are at Paska Rec Site about 20 minutes outside of Logan Lake. The fishing is great and the campground has big open sites. So Steve called Ray...good timing, they must still be in Logan Lake where there is cell service! Ray said that there are still a couple sites open that would accommodate us...so that is where we are heading first thing tomorrow morning. Of course, again, there is no cell/internet service...so this may be the last blog update for awhile. But stay tuned! I'm sure we will be going into to Logan Lake and I'll get updates done as soon as I can.
