Tuesday, August 27, 2013 (Travel to Boya Lake Provincial Park, BC)

I actually had a much better sleep last night than I was expecting.  The traffic on the highway died right down and it was fairly quiet.  We were up and on the road by 8:15 this morning...getting a nice early start on what I figured was going to be a long travel day. Steve took this picture of our overnight spot before we left.

It was a rainy day for most of the drive south...

Still beautiful scenery though...

Teslin River...

Teslin Lake...

We crossed over Nisutlin  Bay after going through the village of Teslin...

Little bits of blue were trying to make their way through the thick cloud...

 Crossing the Continental Divide...

About 21 kms/13 miles before Watson Lake, we came to the junction with highway 37.  Goodbye Alaska Highway...we turned right (south) onto the Stewart-Cassiar Highway...

After a few minutes on this highway we were concerned that we had made a bad decision taking this route.  It was paved with short bits of gravel but very lumpy and bumpy.  Oh well...we're on it now!

 Blue River...

We travelled for miles through a large burn area...

It took us about an extra half hour longer than it was supposed to, by the time we arrived at Boya Lake Provincial Park.  It was 3:15 and we had driven about 500 kms/311 miles in 7 hours (including rest breaks)...but we made it to our destination.  Not sure of what to expect in the campground (we hate not knowing what we are getting ourselves into), we pulled over at the turnoff to the park.  We were going to walk in and take a look first...until we saw the sign that said it was 2 kms to the campground.  Okay then...I guess we will drive in.

We found a site right on the lake that would fit us perfectly...and it would be a fairly easy back in, as well...bonus!  There was another whole loop so we thought we would take a drive through it before deciding on this site.  Finding nothing that we liked better, we went back to the original site and had no problem with backing in...gotta like sites on a curve in the road.

As soon as we got backed into the site, the park attendant came by to collect the fee...$16/night, no hookups.  The rain let up long enough for us to get set up...and...then the sun actually came out (well, very briefly) allowing us to sit outside for a bit to enjoy our lakefront view...

A panorama shot of our view...
 Cubby of Grouse passing through...

After a bit of a rest, Steve decided he would try putting up the satellite dish to see if we could get a signal.  Well, he managed to get one and got the tripod all tied down just in time before the rain started again.  So, we spent the evening inside watching TV...no internet though, so I made notes on the iPad.  I managed to capture this rainbow...beautiful!  After a couple of long travel days, we are looking forward to just relaxing here for a few nights.  Steve wants to try fishing as well.
