Our first stop was Midnight Dome. A long windy steep road lead us to the most spectacular views of Dawson City and the surrounding area...
Note the clear water of the Klondike River mixing with the Yukon River...
Panorama picture...(Click on picture)
A nice couple from Germany (now living in Calgary) took this picture for us...
The next thing on our list to see was the Dredge No. 4 Historic Site...it was about a 20 minute drive on Bonanza Road, just off the highway...
We joined in on a tour that had just gotten underway...
After a talk outside, we went onboard the dredge...
Large water pump...
Trommel...
Looking out over the Bucket Line on the bow...
Standing in front of the Trommel...
Looking inside of the Trommel from the Hopper side...
Looking out at the Stacker on the stern where the tailings exit the Dredge...
Riffles that would normally be covered with coconut mats...
Coconut mat and two different sized grates...demonstrating a sample bucket that would be full of black sand and gold...
Dianne wearing a hand made raw gold necklace...80% pure gold nugget weighing 3 oz. and worth about $3000.00...(suits me, don't you think?)
Hard to believe that this is all controlled by those levers in the Control Room...
After the tour, we wandered around taking more pictures...
Stern end with the Stacker...
Lots of buckets...
Tailing piles left behind from the Dredge...
That was a great tour...more so than I was expecting. The tour guide was very good and really knew her stuff! The $12/person fee was well worth it!
On our way back into town, I took a few pictures...
We rushed to the Visitors Centre for the 1:30 historic walking tour of the town...and we made it in time; the problem was that it was at 1:00...drats! So we took some pictures inside the centre...
...and then headed out for our own walk along the waterfront dike...
The Keno was the last paddle wheeler to sail the Yukon...
We made it back to the Visitors Centre where we had parked the truck and drove it back to the hotel...
...and then walked to the Westminster Hotel for a beer in their tavern...
After our beer, we decided to go back to the hotel for an hour or so (where I worked on our blog) before going out for dinner.
Managing to get one blog posted (I am so far behind!), it was time to go out for dinner. We stopped at The Drunken Goat Taverna but decided to just stay for a beer in the bar side...
...before going to Sourdough Joe's Restaurant for dinner...Halibut and chips...yum!
Then it was time to head to Diamond Tooth Gerties....
We had a little time before the show started so we played the slots. As usual, Steve played...and played...and played on his $5.00....me, of course, was out of the game within 10 minutes! (Yeah, I know...big spenders!)
Show Time!
They brought up a couple of fellows and dressed them up...
The guys get to take a garter...
Steve with one of the dancers...
The show at Diamond Tooth Gerties was entertaining but the Fantastic Follies show that we saw in Whitehorse was much better...more of a Vaudeville act...
Now, it was time to go to the Downtown Hotel so Steve could have a Sourtoe Cocktail. He had read about this world famous drink and was bound and determined to do it...me...well, I think it's pretty gross!
There's a lineup behind Steve...
The toe has to touch your lips...
Ahhh...that wasn't so bad...
Yep...that's a real toe...
This fellow is a fantastic piano player...excellent entertainment!
And that concludes our tour of Dawson City...we had a great time...time to head back to Tok in the morning.
Congratulations on getting the blog up to date!! I know I will never get that done;o)) The fog rolling in and out reminds us of our weather here in Maine, but when it clears it is amazing!! Your views are really "Living Large!!!" Great photos of a beautiful place:o)
