Tuesday, July 16, 2013 (Tundra RV Park, Tok, Alaska)

We had a lazy morning and then I figured I had better get my butt in gear...check out time is at 11:00!  And it was just before 11:00 by the time we pulled out of Tok RV Village and headed the short distance to Tundra Lodge and RV Park.

We were given a nice long pull-through site, #41...$35.00 US/night for full hook-ups, including 50amp electric.  It's a very unique private park...all sites are situated in a heavily forested area and are nicely spaced. If you like Provincial/State Parks this is close to it. Unusual for a private park with full hook-ups!

We got all set up and after trying fruitlessly to get a satellite signal, we finally gave up.  Oh well, there is no cable, either, so we will have to rely on PVR'd programs and the one station we can get using the air antenna.

Once we were all finished, we headed to the Visitors Centre to get information on Alaska.  They have a lovely big log building...

...with quite a number of displays inside...

Once back at home, we needed to research accommodation in Dawson City, Yukon as we are leaving our trailer at the campground. Tomorrow we are going to drive the Taylor/Top of the World Highways and spend a couple of nights in Dawson.  From talking to others and our research we had decided not to do the loop from Whitehorse to Dawson City and Tok.

I activated my Verizon MiFi but unfortunately, the signal is very weak here (apparently AT&T is the service here).  So with free WiFi up in the lodge, we decided to have our happy hour in the lounge and take the iPad with us...

We managed to get a good rate using Expedia (good but not cheap!)...thank goodness because we learned that there is a music festival there starting Thursday night.

After dinner, we were sitting outside when our neighbor invited us over to join them around the campfire.  There are three groups (of fifth-wheels) travelling together from Alabama.  They have just finished their tour of Alaska and are heading south now.  I'm not even going to try to remember all of their names...but the dog's is Molly...

We chatted with them for awhile, battling mosquitoes and campfire smoke, then called it a night...we plan on being on the road by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow for our drive to Dawson City.
