We had a pretty lazy start to the day and then decided we should get a move on...so we did our resistance exercises, showered and had breakfast. It was mid to late morning by the time we headed off into Butte. After taking us on a bit of a wild goose chase, Serena finally directed us to Walmart. This time, for some reason, what I had originally punched into her (Walmart) had changed to some other bizarre address. I’m going to have to keep an eye on her!
After picking up some groceries and a few other odds and ends...including a TracPhone...we headed to Safeway. If possible, I would prefer to get fresh produce and meat at an actual grocery store. We have had some bad luck at various Walmarts on our travels. But Walmart is good for most other things...including wine...a 5 litre box for $13.97!! At least our liquor bill will go down now that we are back in the States!
On our way to Safeway, we passed a SuperCuts and Steve immediately turned into the parking lot...he had been looking for someplace to get a haircut. I sat out in the truck reading up on our new TracFone while he went in for a cut. He wasn’t long and we were soon on our way to Safeway.
This time, Steve sat in the truck while I went in for the groceries. I wasn’t long, though, and as I got back in the truck, he suggested we go to The Montana Club for lunch. We had passed it on the main street...I’m pretty sure there is no connection to the Montana’s chain of restaurants we have in Canada. What a good idea! I hadn’t had much breakfast and it was going on 2:30 by this time...I was starving!
There seems to be a casino on every street corner in Butte (and quite possible could be the same all throughout Montana) and The Montana Club was no exception...there was a casino attached to the restaurant as well. I had an awesome Cobb Salad while Steve had a Philly Beef Dip. We certainly weren’t hungry by the time we left.
We were back on the I-90 heading west back to the campground when Steve noticed a sign to Butte’s Historical District. So we decided to take the exit and have a look. We’re really glad that we did...there is quite an extensive district that is being refurbished. Lots of very cool brick buildings. Too bad we are in a rush to get further south to see Canyon Lands, Arches and Moab before the snow fly’s in the mountain passes and our trip to Mexico next month....
Here are some pictures of the beautiful old buildings...Not exactly sure what this is but I believe it has something to do with the mining industry that was strong in the early days...
Once back at the campground, I put away all the groceries while Steve worked on some things outside—getting ready to leave in the morning. He is keeping an eye on the truck...looks like the coolant is leaking. Before leaving Coeur D’Alene he did his safety checks while warming up the truck and noticed a small wet spot under the truck and a couple of drips hanging under the radiator. The coolant reservoir behind the cab was at the add mark so he topped up the antifreeze (he had picked up some at Walmart).
Here are pictures of the campground...
As you can see, it is pretty empty...
After having such a late (and big) lunch, we decided that we’d just have a bowl of soup for dinner...so around 8:00, I heated some chunky soup...now that’s the kind of dinner prep I like! With both space heaters going, we headed to bed...it is getting quite cold at night. There was even mention of snow in some of the areas...okay...well, let’s get the heck out of here before that happens!
