Monday, September 12, 2011 (Fort Steele Resort & RV Park, Fort Steele, BC)

We were up and out before 8am this morning...this is starting to feel too much like work!  But today we only had the strip above each slider to wax...mind you, we had to put in the sliders to do that, which meant moving all the furniture out of the way.  So that was a bit of a pain...at least we didn’t have to secure everything like we do on a travel day.

As usual, my job this morning was chief ladder and wax container holder...tough, I know, but someone had to do it.  Thank goodness today’s job only took about 45 minutes...or I would have put in for a transfer to something a little more exciting.  After that was finished, Steve sprayed some of that foam on the tires that makes them shiny (oh right...conditions and protects them) and we (yes “we”) wiped off the over-spray and polished the rims.  Our work for this morning was finished in about an hour.
After putting the sliders back out, straightening the furniture and getting changed, we were on our way into Cranbrook...we had a bunch of errands today.  Our first stop was going to be the post office where a parcel from Rob was waiting for us.
We had just turned off highway 95 onto highway 3 when all of a sudden there was a terrible sound of exploding glass.  We had been hit by what must have been a huge rock from a logging truck going in the opposite direction...and it smashed into the windshield right in front of me.  There were glass splinters and dust all over me and the inside of the truck...I even had a couple of small shards in my knee (that drew blood).  It absolutely scared the crap out of me!  I hate to think of what would have happened if it had been a motorcyclist that had been hit....

Well, I guess our first stop now is going to be a glass shop but first we stopped at a car wash where they had some vacuums, so that Steve could vacuum the glass off of me and the inside  of the truck.  We found Speedy Glass and were surprised to find that they had a windshield in stock.  We have an appointment to have it installed tomorrow at 10:30.  This is our second windshield replacement!
Okay...now we can get on with the rest of our day.  We picked up our parcel at the post office and then headed to the bank where Steve was hoping to pick up his new credit card...they were sending the replacement to the Cranbrook branch.  It hadn't arrived yet...they will call when it comes in...well, it better be here soon!

Our next stop was Walmart.  I wasn`t going to do grocery shopping there but we had a few "Walmart priced" things to pick up and we also wanted to get a cheap pay as you go cell phone for Steve so that he will have it when I head home in a couple of weeks (because I will be taking our one and only cell with me).
It was getting close to lunch time by the time we were finished in Walmart so we decided to grab a bite at A&W...Steve‘s favourite burger place.  While having our lunch we talked about the cell phone we had just bought at Walmart.  It hadn’t been as cheap as the one Steve had seen at the Pincher Creek AB Walmart and wondered if we would have had a better selection and price at a Telus store.  After checking on the internet, I found that there was a Telus store in the mall next door, so after we had finished our lunch we went there to check it out.  We found one that was $20 cheaper so bought it and returned the other one to Walmart.

Our next stop was Safeway.  I was going to do some grocery shopping while Steve headed off to find a place to get a haircut.  He was also going to walk down to Mountain Man Outdoors...a couple of blocks away...where he could pick up his hunting licence and tags.
After one final stop (liquor store), we headed back to Fort Steele...arriving home at around 3pm.  I unpacked and put away all of the groceries and cleaned up inside while Steve took his car-vacuum and cleaned the cab of the truck.  A big motorhome had pulled in and he was also busy chatting with out new neighbour, Ken who commented that they were also here a few weeks ago when we were. He also said that our truck looked a lot newer then. Hey...the quads are washed...we spent 3 days washing and waxing the 5th wheel and the truck is next.
It was after 4:30 when we sat down in the shade outside to enjoy our evening cocktail.  Steve had invited Ken and his wife over to join us but they were meeting some family and going out for dinner.  Steve and I sat out and chatted for awhile and then decided to go inside and take a look at the pictures from our whitewater rafting trip last month.  The memory stick from Mountain High Adventures had finally arrived in the mail back home and was in the parcel that we picked up this morning.
