Friday, March 13, 2015 (Travel to Overton Wildlife Management Area, Overton, NV)

It was about 10:30 on a beautiful morning as we pulled out of our spot at Government Wash. We slowly made it back to the paved parking lot (it's .6 miles) where we stopped and Steve had one quick walk around the rig. I took one final picture looking back from the unused boat launch area which appears to be almost a mile away from the lake!

Then we continued on Government Wash Road to Northshore Road and turned right to carry-on northeast towards Overton. The drive through the rest of Lake Mead Recreation Area was absolutely gorgeous!
So, needless to say, I took a ton of pictures! Steve managed to get the 118 pictures down to the following 58...(remember, just click on picture to enlarge)...

Most of the drive has no lake views but is beautiful...

We turned off at Echo Bay Road and drove about 5 miles to the campground so we could dump the tanks and take on fresh water.

Like Boulder Beach, there is a full hook-up RV park as well as a campground.

This is the entrance to the campground. The sani-dump is just on the left but we had to drive a loop through the campground to access it on the right side.

The sites in the campground are very small...none would accommodate us...

With the holding tanks empty and the fresh water tanks full, we were back on the road...

The turnoff to Stewarts Point and another boondocking area...

A long string of bikers passed us...24 in all...

This is the north entrance to Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The highway to Valley of Fire is on the left just beyond it.

We passed a huge boondocking area...I believe it's called Poverty Flats...

About 2 miles south of Overton, we reached our destination...Overton Wildlife Management Area, run by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. There are about 6 campsites...and it's free with a posted 8 day limit (but I don't really think it is enforced).

We pulled into the second site, next to Doug and Toni...the sites are huge with vegetation between them providing a nice privacy break. It was about 1:30, so the first thing we did was eat the sandwiches I had made this morning...then we got to work with our set up.
View from our site...

At 4:00, we walked next door with our bevies and joined Toni and Doug for happy hour....

...and then went inside for dinner... quiche, Caesar salad and lemon meringue pie. Delicious!
We enjoyed a lovely few hours catching up before calling it a night. We're looking forward to exploring this area over the next few days!

  1. Nice pictures! I felt like I was driving along with you. I am glad to see that you were able to get into Overton WMA when we drove by it looked like the sign over the entrance was a little low but I am assuming that you made it under it without any problems? Poverty Flats is a pretty interesting area, not sure why you would want to stay there when there are several other nicer places in the area.
