We both, at separate times, bid Red and Pam farewell...it was great seeing you! Hope to see you again next year...safe travels!
I took this picture out of the window...the group heading out!
I'll pass this over to Steve to tell you about his ride...
Dianne hasn't been riding much because of her knee, so to keep the mileage on both our quads as equal as possible for when it's time for servicing them, I took hers. The surging issue on her quad hasn't happened again on the last couple of rides so I hope all goes well.
We rode to Dripping Springs, had lunch at Apache Chief Cabin then rode down Hogsback to this valley below. If I had known ahead of time we were going down Hogsback instead of up it I would have brought my Go Pro camera. I've videoed going up before but never going down, which is much more scenic. Oh well...next time! A couple of miles before arriving at this spot Dianne's quad started to surge again. Jim thinks that as the fuel level drops it gets hot and the pump is starting to fail...just what I need before heading down these very steep series of hills!
Before heading down there was another group there so we got one of them to take a group photo...
Jim, Bill and Janet, her brother Duane, in the back...(not sure if I have their names correct) Cheryl and Jim, Cec, me and Earl
Time to head down...
The quad ran fine until we got to the bottom where the surging reared it's ugly self again just as we entered a long rocky wash to our last stop back at the Livingston Mine...that wasn't fun! It seems if you stop for awhile the fuel tank cools down enough to run smoothly until it heats up again.
Lots of quartz here...
On the way back we were going much faster allowing enough airflow to keep the fuel tank cooler so I had no further surging issues. That was another great day on the trails!
Back to me...I spent the day catching up on some banking and odds and ends. I also sat outside crocheting...it was quite windy but it was from the north so the trailer made a good windbreak as I sat outside.
Wednesday (Feb. 19) we made another trip to Buckeye with Dave and Leslie. The part has come in for their laptop so, again, we met the tech at Booty's Wings, Burgers and Beer.
We enjoyed another great feast of wings...but were disappointed that they were out of Kiltlifter Beer (great beer from Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe)...all while the tech worked on the laptop. Unfortunately the news wasn't good...looks like Dave and Leslie may be in the market for a new laptop.
We did some shopping next door at Walmart and then headed home...arriving at about 3:30. Another great road trip and day!
Thursday (Feb. 20) Steve and Guy left bright and early (8:30) for the RC airfield. Guy has been lured into RC airplane ownership and is getting a lesson from one of the experts at the airfield today.
Over to Steve....
Wayne trained me a couple of years ago, and listening to him instruct Guy, I learned a couple of more things that had never been mentioned before...
Now it was time for Wayne to do a test flight to make sure everything is working and the plane is properly trimmed out...
While they were recharging Guys battery I took my plane up. Once charged it was Guy's turn to take take his very first flight...
That was a great first day for Guy. On the way back I took him on a tour of the club hanger...I think Guy was impressed with all that was there for club members if they needed to work on their planes.
Back to me...I spent the morning cleaning and doing a little banking...oh, and I also went on a 1 1/2 mile walk! Feeling pretty good about that...I will gradually try to increase the distance.
Steve and Guy got home at around l:00 and Steve immediately got started on his chore for today...pumping and dumping. A couple of hours later, that was done...and after a brief rest, he took the bikes off the back of the trailer. Dave has a stand to hold the bikes while he works on them. He has been doing some maintenance on their bikes and offered to do the same to ours. Awesome Dave, thanks! They are in need of it! Steve's bike had been making a lot of noise so after Dave tuning it up it was like new again...thanks Dave! Sorry forgot to take a photo of you working at your bicycle workstation (:
Much to our surprise, Harry and Vicki's time with us here on the desert has come to an end...they are leaving for Tucson tomorrow. So we enjoyed one final gathering with them...great seeing you both, already looking forward to next year! Safe travels!
Me, Leslie, Sue, Marilyn, Brian (friend visiting Harry), Harry, Vicki, Colan, Dave and Guy...
The group had dwindled down to just Harry, Vicki, Colan, Marilyn, Dave and Leslie...
I snapped a picture of a humming bird at the feeder with the sunset reflection in the window...
Margaret staying warm...
Friday (Feb. 21) morning after pedalling for 10 minutes and then joining Steve in some resistance exercises, I headed out for a walk while he had his shower. Today I walked 2 miles! No pain, feeling good...getting there!
We spent most of the afternoon working on our blog...we've gotten a little behind. With Mike and Dawne, Red and Pam and now Harry and Vicki gone, our group is quickly dwindling. But we still have quite a stack of firewood left, so we decided to have a campfire for happy hour tonight...just Guy, Sue, Dave, Leslie and us. The plan was to return to the fire after dinner, but we all agreed it was just too unpleasant with the wind, so we said goodnight to Guy and Sue.
Another great sunset tonight over Dave and Leslie's rig...
When Jim and Barb left, they gave us some venison tenderloin they had in their freezer...tonight I was cooking it and Dave and Leslie were joining us for the feast!
After marinading it for 2 days, I baked it in the oven...Leslie made rice and fried mushrooms, and along with Caesar salad, we had an absolutely delicious dinner!
Thanks Jim and Barb!
