Sunday and Monday, February 16 and 17, 2020 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Sunday we joined the gang sitting in the morning sun over by Mike and Dawne's rig...a nice morning chit-chat!

Just after 12, Steve and I headed into Q to meet RV-Dreams friends Bob and Karen. They were staying just across the Colorado River from Parker and we try to get together for a visit every year. We were meeting them at Silly Al's Pizza...and as we were walking into the restaurant, we noticed this in the lot...of course, Steve had to get a picture of it!
When we first arrived, it was fairly quiet in the restaurant but about a half hour later, our gang from La Posa arrived having decided to all go to Silly Al's too! Just after they arrived, another big group came in and it was super busy...you would have thought it was January and "show time"!

We enjoyed catching up with Bob and Karen over lunch...
...and then continued our visit next door...for ice cream...
As usual, it was wonderful catching up with you, Bob and Karen! Next year, we'll come up to you in Parker where there are more restaurant choices! Safe travels!

We ended the day with another gathering of the gang for happy hour at our place...left to right around the circle, me, Leslie, Sue, Pam, Vicki, Jim, Lynn, Marilyn, Mike, Dawne, Dave, Guy and Harry...
Monday (Feb. 17) morning we were up and ready for the day by 9:00. We walked over to say goodbye to Mike and Dawne...they are leaving today and starting a slow trek back north to Oregon. It was so great seeing you and catching up! Looking forward to next time!

Shortly after that, Dave and Leslie picked us up and we were off to Lake Havasu City. They have never been there and their friends from Alberta happen to be staying there for a couple of nights...a good opportunity to see the city and visit with their friends. We were lucky enough to be invited along.

We arrived at Havasu Dunes Resort around 11:00...where Scott and Leanne had a great one-bedroom suite. After introductions and chatting a bit, we all headed to walk along the lake. We followed Scott and Leanne to a parking area by the Lake Havasu City Visitors Center...basically the gateway to a beautiful walk along the waterfront.

We walked along the shoreline trail making it almost to the Rotary Park and after a brief sit-down for me, we started the walk back. It was a wonderful walk!
Looking back towards the entrance...

The other side of the bridge is an Grand Island...

After admiring the bridge we continued along the man made channel...

Lake Havasu, the southernmost of four large reservoirs on the Colorado River in Arizona, was formed in 1938 by completion of Parker Dam in a then uninhabited part of the Mojave Desert. The main function of the dam is to store water to supply two cross-country canals (the Central Arizona Project Aqueduct eastwards and the Colorado River Aqueduct to southern California), unlike the dams further north which are primarily designed for power generation. The lake now covers 35 miles of the river along the Arizona/California border and for much of its length is rather inaccessible, enclosed by sombre, rugged, roadless mountains, though highway 95 runs quite close to much of the eastern edge.
By this time, we were all hungry and ready for lunch...so we headed to Mudshark Brewery and Restaurant...highly recommended by Jim and Barb.
Luckily we managed to snafu a table out on the pet-friendly patio so Margaret could be with us...too hot to leave her in the truck!

Delicious food, great beer...and wonderful company! Steve, me, Leanne, Scott, Dave and Leslie...
A wishing well built in the corner of the patio..."Make a Wish...Build a Park...Remember a Soldier"...
After lunch, we made a stop at a jewellery store where Steve got the jeweller to put the back of his watch in place. Steve had changed the battery but couldn't get the back, back on...they had a special press tool to do that...go figure!

We tried to take a drive through Lake Havasu State Park but the nice Ranger at the gate apologetically said no, cannot do that...well, we tried to show Dave and Leslie the spot we had stayed a number of years ago...oh well.

After that, we drove back to join Scott and Leanne at Havasu Dunes Resort where we spent the next couple of hours by the pool in a lovely shaded area...

At about 4:00 we said goodbye...so great meeting you Scott and Leanne...enjoy the rest of your vacation! Safe travels!

After a brief stop at Walmart in  Parker, we got home around 6:00 and immediately walked over to Red and Pam's for a final happy hour with them. Tired of all the dust here, they are leaving for Yuma in the morning.

Being so late, it was a short gathering with them, Colan, Marilyn, Guy, Sue, Dave and Leslie. We said goodnight and headed over to Dave and Leslie's place for a quick light dinner of roast chicken and bag salad Les had picked up at Walmart. Good thinking!...and thanks for feeding us again!

  1. Sounds like you had a great time. Lake Havasu looked awesome. We did not make it there this year. Maybe next.

    1. It had been a few years since we had been there and it has changed quite a bit. Love the walkway along the lake!
