Saturday, February 15, 2020 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

We had a beautiful sunrise this morning....
Steve headed off with Earl at 8:30 to the annual Quartzsite Desert Flyers RC Fun Fly...I'll pass this over to Steve to tell you all about it...

It turned out to be a perfect day for today's event, sunny and warm with calm winds. In years past we have frozen our butts off. We started off checking out the static displays...

Most of these are only on display and will not be flying...
We ran into Red...far left. In front of him is Wayne that taught me to fly...
These will be flying...

Some of these guys have a lot of money invested into this sport...
Our spot...Earl and Dave on the other side of the Roadrunner. Guy joined us later on...
Drone shot...the parking lot has been expanded since last year...
We are seated on the bottom left...
Let the show begin...

This guy put his plane into a hover just above the ground like a helicopter...

Red has a plane just like this one. It has 2 electric motors that tilt up for vertical take off and landing then they rotate forward for flight...

This has a real jet engine...
It sounds pretty cool!
He was clocked at 269 kph/167 mph on one pass making it very hard to get a picture in flight...

This plane appears to be flying backwards as it's not flying to the right...it's flying to the left
This pilot is from our home town of Victoria, BC...

This pilot is from Kelowna, BC...lots of Canadian club members in Q.

 Not a bad pilot...

Another talented pilot...

I can fly like that...purely by accident...LOL!

This is a great new trainer plane called the Aero Scout that I wish was available when I bought mine. It's smaller, has an electric pusher motor behind the wing so if you have an accident you're not breaking your propeller and the plastic cowling, engine mount, and firewall. I had to replace those parts twice last year! :( The announcer asked if any non flyers were interested in flying it to come forward. Several did, including Guy who eventually bought one the next day at the swap meet...it gets expensive hangin with Red! :)
The pilots had some competition from this guy...

The show runs until noon then they break for lunch...which is free for club members and a guest, so Earl and I invited Guy and Dave...we all contributed to the donation jar. We left shortly after lunch as the afternoon is a repeat of the morning...another great fun fly!

While he was gone, I puttered around doing a little baking and "stuff" until Steve got home around 1:00.

We just chilled for the rest of the afternoon outside with the awning and sunscreen giving us some shade...a gorgeous day!

  5. Great Pictures, we were there flying that day. I had the P-39, Sukhoi SU-31 and had a B-36 on display.
