Thursday to Sunday, January 23 to 26, 2020 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Thursday (Jan. 23) was “Show Day” for us. Towards the end of the week, the crowds die down so that is when we like to go and check it out. So shortly after 9 we hopped on the quads and headed over. Although still plenty of folks, it was much more tolerable wandering the vendors inside and outside the Big Tent. Other than a couple of cool toys for our grandsons, we didn’t purchase anything.

Show entrance...
One of the most popular food vendors...look at the semi truck exhaust stacks on that barbecue!

The main difference we noticed in this years show were half a dozen vendors selling electric bikes...
The tent is surrounded by outside vendors too...
After the tent, we headed to Beer Belly’s for lunch. It was just before noon…good timing for us as we managed to snafu one of the last tables before it got too busy. By the time we were finished, there were many folks aimlessly walking around looking for an empty table.
Various entertainers play for tips...
We continued our vendor shopping by going across the street to check out that area again. So many more vendors have arrived.
Suzanne, this is what you need for Dunkin' LOL! These 6 dogs look bored and the owner was not very friendly...
Skulls and hides for sale...

By the time we had finished, I was pooped right out and ready to head home!

Friday (Jan. 24) morning Steve headed over to the dump bright and early at 7:00. He had pumped late yesterday afternoon. With the crowds here, the line-up to dump gets very long…we counted over 20 the other day! So it’s best to get there early and get it done!

Just before 10:30, we headed into town to the QIA (Quartzsite Improvement Association) for the annual Canadian Potluck. We were joined by Earl, Allison, their friends Len and Fran, and Jim and Cec. It was another great time with tons of delicious dishes to indulge in. The attendance was down a bit from last year at 186 from 207…again, lots of door prizes were given out, along with the 50/50 draw. Cec was the only winner in our group, getting a selection of teas.

At 4:00 Dino and Lisa joined us for happy hour…as we waited for friends, Andrew and Sherry, to arrive. They are the folks that we first met in 2010 at the Hadfield-McCoy Trailfest in West Virginia. We also enjoyed their hospitality a year ago last summer when we travelled across Canada and stayed with them on their farm just outside of Ottawa, Ontario. The farm has now been sold, they have purchased another recreational piece of property…and decided to head down here for the winter. Their first time on the desert!

It wasn’t until after 4:30 when we got the text that they were here…so Steve jumped on his quad to escort them into our area. After they got set up, they joined us and we had a great time catching up.

Saturday (Jan. 25)….Happy 7th Birthday to our first-born grandson, Conner!! We had a great chat with him later on in the afternoon. He is plane crazy and was very excited to tell us that he will be getting a 1 hour flight in a Cessna 172 when the weather improves. We may have a pilot in the family!

Andrew and Sherry were anxious to go to the RV Show…so, we headed off in their truck after 10:00. Perhaps a bit late to find a good parking spot, but at least we managed to find one!

We walked the inside of the big tent. Sherry and I both got our hair "defrizzed"at one of the vendors demonstrating their product. An absolute necessity for your RV! LOL
As it was getting close to noon and Beer Belly's fills up quickly, we decided to head over there for a beer before continuing with the vendors outside of the tent. Harry and Vicky joined us….
It was after 3:00 by the time we got home. I went in to get dinner prepped…ribs in the Instant Pot tonight. Andrew and Sherry are joining us. Me, Sherry, Andrew and  Steve...
Dinner time! (Why are you both staring at Steve?!)
Sunday (Jan. 26) we thought we’d take Andrew and Sherry out for a little tour of the area on the 4-wheelers. We headed out at 10:30 with the plan to show them the Indian petroglyphs and grinding holes, Goldeye Mine, the ancient footprint along with other stops along the way…and then finish up by riding to a couple of stone cabins before ending at Beer Belly’s for lunch.

View from the grinding holes hilltop...
Pickup truck hill climbing...
All went well until we were on our way towards the stone cabins. We had just passed Rainbow Acres when my quad decides to start acting up…it kept surging and when we stopped to check it out, it stalled and I had a heck of a time getting it to keep running. Andrew and Sherry offered to tow it back but Steve didn't want to eat all that dust. Steve managed to get it going, so jumped on it and hightailed it back home…with me following on his quad and Sherry and Andrew in their side-by-side. Steve actually managed to make it all of the way home without having to stop…even crossing the highway! So…it’s now parked and will have to be checked out. Perhaps it’s the fuel filter??

We had another big gathering at the campfire tonight….and a hot dog roast...

And a beautiful sunset...

  1. A great week for you. Sorry we missed out having the "Quartzsite Grunge" but did not want anyone to get it. :)

  2. Good times in the desert! Lots of "stuff" to see at the show. A big group around the fire for hot dogs on what looks like a really nice day, awesome.
