Friday, May 31, 2019 (Travel to Thunderbird RV Park, Campbell River, BC)

We woke to another bright, beautiful sunny day...a great travel day! We had the trailer all packed up but before heading out, Steve wanted to check the tire pressures and check the torque on the lug bolts...especially after sitting for 2 months. We also both held our breath while putting the slides in. Whew...we always feel a little anxious on moving day...but thankfully everything went smoothly!

It was 10:00 when we pulled out and said goodbye to Oceanside RV Resort...see you again in a couple of months!

We headed south towards Victoria and then took Mackenzie Avenue that goes west over to highway 1 north...and up island. This is the route we will be taking...
The start of the Malahat Drive...
Approaching Goldstream Park...the stream seems low.

Views from the Malahat...
 Saanich Inlet...
Approaching Duncan, BC...
Cowichan River...
BC Forest Discovery Centre, on the north side of Duncan...
A great place to take kids...
Transfer Beach Park in Ladysmith, BC...
Nanaimo...home of the Nanaimo Bar!
Nanoose Bay, north of Nanaimo. The Canadian and US Navy have used this shallow inlet for testing torpedoes as they are easier to retrieve in shallow waters...
 Navy facility across the bay...

We pulled into Thunderbird RV Park in Campbell River at 2:00. There really isn't much room to stop and register before continuing onto your site but we knew our site number was 48, so we pulled ahead and found our site post and walked to the office.

Unfortunately, the sites share the same utilities which meant Steve had to pull out and come in from the opposite direction. We got the trailer levelled and unhitched and then started our set up routine.

About an hour or so later, we were done. Yep...the sites are basically awning to awning!
Our site from the back...
The waterfront sites (there's a fence and a road between the site and the water) in front of us...
Once we were done, we took a cold drink and chairs over to Ray and Anne's. They're also fulltimers from the Island and have a beautiful site on the estuary and are right behind us. They had greeted us upon our arrival and left us to set up....
It has been a few years since we last saw them while in Quartzsite, so had lots of catching up to do. But we have stayed in touch through Ray's website, Love Your RV. Check it out ...he has lots of reviews and info. Anne is a fabulous photographer and has her own website as well Anne McKinnell Photography We are here for a month, so I would imagine we will have lots of visits...especially since the view from their site is wonderful! From their site they have spotted a Black Bear, Mink, Deer, Eagles, as well as many other birds...
The sites are not nearly as spacious and separated as they are at Oceanside RV Park, but they are fine and there is lots of flat area for bike riding...looking forward to our stay!
