Wednesday, June 12, 2019 (Thunderbird RV Park, Campbell River, BC)

Today was  forecast to be the hottest day of the week but, although hot, there were a lot of clouds and it wasn't as nice as it was yesterday. However, it was hot enough to turn on the the air conditioner in the trailer.

After our usual start to the day, Steve noticed a few people looking out over the estuary so he grabbed his camera and headed over to Ray and Anne's. Anne is usually outside in the mornings with her tripod mounted camera and takes fabulous landscape and wildlife photos. Steve says his are pathetic compared to hers! She pointed out the two young bucks bedded down below the campground...
They still have felt on their antler. The antlers on the one bedded down blend in with his ears...

A little while later from inside the trailer Steve noticed another deer coming up the estuary...
According to Anne this one is really skittish and is always looking around so may have been chased before...
We made a quick trip into town to pick up some red wine for dinner. While Steve did that, I popped into Save-On Foods for a couple of things. We hadn't been back home long before Deb and Ray pulled in with their motorhome...they are on their way farther up island near Port McNeill for a fishing trip at Cluxewe Resort with family, so stopped for a couple of nights here. A good stop for them to break up a long drive...and a great chance for a visit with us!

We left them to get set up and once they were ready to relax, we joined them to spend the afternoon chatting and enjoying the view and activity on the ocean. They are in an oceanfront site just in front of us...great spot to just chill and watch the many Eagles flying around and the boat activity on the water.
This juvenile Eagle...
...chased the adult off it's perch...
Tug boats towing barges....
Steve had his telephoto lens on and couldn't fit in all of the barge...
It's been a beehive of activity around here today. Those young bucks decided to risk the road as they headed to Jigger's, the fish and chip shop at the end of the campground. We hear it's really good there so we'll have to give it a try one day...
Ray and Steve took Freya across the street to the beach for a little swim...

Ray and Anne joined us for happy hour and we enjoyed great conversation as Deb and Ray got acquainted with them. Deb also follows Ray's blog/website loveyourrv.com and were happy to finally meet them. Left to right...Ray, Anne, me, Ray and Deb...
Freya looking for someone to play with her!
At 5:00 I headed back to our trailer to get dinner started....and shortly after that, Steve, Deb and Ray joined me. While I prepared dinner...ribs in the Instant Pot...we continued our visit in the cool trailer. When Steve went out to light the barbecue to put the finishing touch on the ribs, he discovered that it was still quite pleasant outside...so we decided to eat dinner out on the picnic table. Everything was moved out there and we enjoyed our meal...excellent, if I do say so myself! The ribs turned out perfect!
After dinner, we moved back over to Ray and Deb's where we had one final drink outside enjoying the view...and dessert (Black Jack Cherry Frozen Yogurt) before calling it a night.
