Monday to Thursday, June 3 to 6, 2019 (Thunderbird RV Resort, Campbell River, BC)

We woke to clear blue sky this morning...however broken cloud moved in throughout the day. It was sunny for the most part though.

It was mid morning by the time we were ready to head out. We haven't used our boat and motor for awhile, and Steve wanted the motor serviced before taking it out again. We would hate to drive 45 minutes to the lake, off load the boat, motor, and fishing gear only to find out the motor doesn't run. There is a nearby lake that we'd like to make a day trip to for a little fishing. So we dropped the boat motor off at Bill Howich RV and Marine.

On the way home we made a couple of stops...Steve needed some epoxy glue to put the finishing touches on his RC plane repair, and he also needed a new strap to hold the boat motor in place in the truck.

After lunch we got out for another bike ride and did a little geocaching as well. We found one that is towards the end of the spit but the one hidden at the marina was a bust. We basically did the same ride along the waterfront and back as we did yesterday. I'm hoping to make this my daily exercise!

Back home, we chilled for awhile before taking our chairs and a drink over to join Ray and Anne. More great conversation while enjoying the lovely view of the estuary.

After dinner we called our son, Rob, to wish him a Happy Birthday. While we were talking to him, a helicopter appeared to be doing some training exercises transporting guys back and forth from the helicopter base just down from the campground...

Two guys on this run...
The copter would transport them across the estuary...
Then lower them on a trail...you can just see them above the trees...
Tuesday (June 4) morning I finally received the phone call I have been waiting for...from RebalanceMD. My appointment with a Nurse Navigator is June 24 and since we are in Campbell River, it will be done over the phone. She asked if I would be ready for surgery in the fall...you bet I will be! So the next step in my journey for a knee replacement is scheduled.

Steve had received a phone call yesterday afternoon letting him know that the boat motor is ready. Everything checked out okay, no parts required. So we headed off to pick it up.
Once home, I continued working on a new project...transferring all our pictures over to a separate external hard drive. That way they are all backed-up together in one place. While I was doing that, Steve finished his epoxy repair to his RC plane.

A little later in the morning, I left Steve sitting outside reading and took off on my bike....taking our cooler backpack. It's so convenient having a huge shopping area nearby. I picked up some milk and eggs, along with a couple of other things...and pedalled home.

After putting the groceries away, I joined Steve outside in the sunshine. I took this picture of the oceanfront sites in front of us....nice view! Ray and Deb will be joining us next week for a couple of days and will be staying in this site...(the RCMP cruiser is waiting for you guys...LOL!)
It was warm sitting in the sun as long as the wind was calm but it eventually got too windy and chilly so we both went inside. I started the next step in my "backup pictures" project by organizing them by year. This also helped me ensure that I had them all. When the hard drive crashed a couple of years ago, the folks at Geek Squad recovered what they could. For the most part, they all seem to be there, with the exception of a couple of months back in 2013...but that's okay, all pictures are on our blog.

We were up early Wednesday (June 5)...for some reason neither one of us could sleep so we got up just after 5:00. Might need an afternoon nap today, LOL!

The forecast for today calls for rain and wind but it was pretty calm and there was only a brief sprinkling of rain early on. So we decided to get out for our daily bike ride before the storm came in. We did our usual route, but this time reversing it by going into town first and then out to the end of the spit and home. We even had a little sun break through the clouds. Last night we saw 3 poles and the top of a crane moving up the estuary behind the RV's so though we would check it out. They were installing pilings at the float plane base...
It wasn't long after we got home when the wind really started up...followed by rain.  So the rest of the afternoon was an inside day.

We were surprised to wake up to sunshine streaming in the windows Thursday (June 6) morning...the forecast was for more rain and possible thunderstorms, along with much cooler temps.

It was late morning by the time we were ready to go out for our daily bike ride. Our plan is to ride a little further into town to Shopper's Drug Mart...where a parcel is waiting for me at the Canada Post outlet. We decided to start by riding out to the end of the spit first...and on our way back, the wind picked up and there were some very ominous looking clouds heading in. So we decided to cut our ride short and just go home...don't want to be caught in a rain storm while out on our bikes.

Well...it turned out that the rain never did materialize. But we had another day inside staying warm...it was chilly out with a high of 13C/55F. Steve took care of a few odds and ends and then settled in his chair to watch TV. I spent hours on the laptop and my phone trying to get my Fitbit to sync. Don't know why it decided to stop because I've had it for a few years and have never had any "syncing" problems. But I was eventually successful.

At 4:00 we headed off to Emery and  Glenda's...they had called earlier today and invited us over for dinner. They have a lovely home just south of Campbell River.

Emery tending to the chicken on the barbecue...
While the rest of us relaxed with our drinks in front of the propane fire...me, Shenia (grand-daughter visiting from the Vancouver area), and Glenda...
It was pretty chilly out, so we retreated inside...a beautiful bar in their basement family room...
And then we went upstairs for dinner...table is all set and ready for us! But no picture of all of us at it...oops...
We had a great visit and a wonderful meal...and then shortly before 9:00 decided to call it a night. After big hugs, we said goodnight...thanks for a fabulous evening!

To top the evening off, we saw 3 cruise ships on our way home...slowly making their way south from Alaska to Vancouver...
We managed to see the name on the first ship...Celebrity Millennium...
The second ship...
And just as we pulled into our RV park, the third...a much smaller ship. This might be the ferry from Bellingham,WA to Alaska...
Very cool...a perfect end to the day!

And that concludes our first week here in Campbell River...wow, that went fast! We are really enjoying the area...so much more activity and things to do nearby!

    1. That would be a rush for sure that I would try (Steve) as long as it didn’t spin like the poor lady that got rescued in Arizona.

  3. You two are having way too much fun! Glad to see the bikes getting a good workout and you guys too of course. The barbecue your friends have looks different, very cool looking, charcoal I assume? Beauty place they have there. I would join you on the chopper ride Steve, not like face to face together but with our own space haha.

    1. It is a very unique barbecue and yes, charcoal. It's called "Big Green Egg"... https://www.biggreenegg.ca/ Not exactly something we could use in our lifestyle though!

I can just see you and Steve hanging together from a helicopter! You'd be screaming in each other's face LOL
