Friday, February 1 to Friday, February 8, 2019 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Today was a pretty uneventful day...for the most part. As Steve and I were heading out for an early morning walk, Steve saw a coyote run past from behind our rig towards Harry's rig. It's hard to see but it's on the far right of this picture. We later learned that there were 4 of them that passed by Jim and Cec's rig...
The rest of the day, up until 2:30 or so, Steve edited pictures and I knitted, finishing a pair of slippers for Vicki.

It was about 2:30 when we got notification from Dave and Leslie...they are here! Yay! So Steve jumped on his quad and went out to meet them...leading them in to a spot we had saved right next door to us. After big hugs, we left them alone to get situated on the site and set up.

Harry and Vicki are hosting happy hour, so at 4:00 we all gathered over at their place. Dave and Leslie have come out to visit us overnight a couple of times, staying in the back of our truck...so they had met Harry, Vicki, Red and Pam...and they were introduced to Colan and Marilyn. We all had a great time chatting and catching up...can't believe neither Steve nor I thought to take pictures! Sheesh!

With happy hour over, Dave and Leslie went home, picked up Margaret, and came over to our place for dinner...a quick, easy one...burgers and salad. I think another cold beverage or two were consumed before we decided to call it a night. Glad to have you back with us!

It was exercise morning Saturday, so after doing that, I headed out for a 3 mile walk. By the time I got home, Steve had showered and had breakfast.

Shortly after 11:00, we were finally ready to head out with Dave and Leslie to show them around. We started by going to the QIA for their Saturday craft sale. It was a cool, cloudy windy day...(little did we know it was the beginning of the worst weather we have ever experienced here!)...

After that, we showed them where the best place was to get gas, propane and drinking water. At this point, it was getting a little hungry out so Steve suggested we go to the Yacht Club for a late lunch. Yes the Yacht Club, you can just make out the sail boat on the left and there's a cabin cruiser behind the restaurant...

The guys said their burgers were really good...Leslie had Chicken Caesar Salad and I had Chicken Strips...they were just "okay"...

With our bellies full, we continued onto Lifestyles RV and checked out a few used fifth-wheels and a couple of motorhomes. Having satisfied our curiosity, it was time to jump back into the truck and take a drive out to Rainbow Acres. We toured around a number of the roads looking at all the different types of property...some with houses, some with park-models and some with RV's and/or sheds on them...and some with a combination of all. Dave is extremely impressed with this area...

It wasn't a very nice day weather-wise, so happy hour was inside at Dave and Leslie's...followed by a light dinner...thanks guys!
It ended up being a very blustery evening and night!

Sunday (Feb 3) was a chore day. Steve dropped me off at the laundromat and ran a couple of errands before coming back to pick me up. Back home, I hung the laundry while Steve "pumped and dumped" the holding tanks.

Earl (the electronics specialist from his working days) came over later on to take a look at Steve's glider to see if he could figure out what was wrong with it. Steve's been able to launch it and it's electric motor would run fine until he got to gliding elevation, glide for awhile with the motor off but when he tries to activate the motor again it doesn't work. They worked on it for quite awhile. After lots of trial and error they think it was a loose connection to the circuit board as the motor seems to activate properly now. Thanks for the help Earl!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday...we're not interested in watching it but Dave and Leslie are, so they popped over at 3:30 for a quick drink with us before the game started at 4:00.

We hadn't talked to the kids for awhile, so we tried a video call with Rob and Angie...it wasn't a very good connection, so we gave up and ended up just having a regular ol' telephone conversation. So good hearing how excited Conner was about a science experiment he was doing at school.

After that, we manged a FaceTime call with Chris and Angela...and of course, Isaac! The video was a little choppy, but overall not too bad.

Monday (Feb 4) we headed to Parker with Dave and Leslie. We started by dropping off our laptop at Click It Computers...we think it's having battery problems with the new battery...then we continued on across the Colorado River and up the California side of the river. We showed them the Cross Roads BLM Campground we stayed at a few years ago...it was packed. Then we continued onto the Parker Dam.

Some beautiful (and interesting) scenery along the way...

Lots of beautiful riverfront homes on the Arizona side...
And RV Resorts on both sides of the river...

Parker Dam....
Our truck is too big for the dam crossing so it was nice to finally be able to do the loop drive back to Parker...

We took a side trip on Take Off Point Road that goes to a lookout... (gosh it's hard looking into the sun for a picture!)
This part of the river eventually becomes Havasu Lake...
Next was a drive through River Island State Park, a smaller beautiful park Steve and I had stayed at back in 2011. At that time there was no Internet/cell service... (no pics)...followed by Buckskin Mountain State Park. It's a much larger park that we've not stayed at...
Another RV Resort on the California side...

Then we continued south taking Riverside Drive along the river...

A Park Model Park on the California side...
Well that's cool!

And lunch at Stroke's Bar and Grill...
Completing our circle tour, the guys dropped Leslie and I off at Walmart and continued into town to the laundromat. Dave did a load of laundry while Steve walked over to pick up our laptop ...apparently the battery worked just fine...hmmm...Murphy's Law!

On his walk back he heard this cool sound then this beautiful ride drove by...
Steve came and picked us up and by the time we got back to the laundromat, Dave was ready to go...so we headed back home.

We had a short happy hour and then relaxed for the rest of the evening.

Tuesday (Feb 5) was a cold blustery day...the wind really had the trailer rocking at times! So basically other than an early walk, it was an inside day. Steve edited pictures and I cleaned up and puttered around a bit and then settled in my recliner with my knitting.

Dave and Leslie had gone into town to the QIA to play pickleball. Unfortunately, Dave strained his calf muscle badly while playing...so was in great pain when they got home. He's done it before on his other leg so knows he's down and out for a few weeks now. Too bad Dave...that sucks! What's amazing is he just ran a half marathon a few weeks ago.

We joined them over at their place for a quick happy hour and then headed back home to chill for the evening in front of the TV.

Wednesday (Feb 6) started off beautiful...nice clear blue sky, no wind but chilly! Steve went with Red and Earl to the Quartzsite Desert Flyers RC meeting ...
...and I went out for a 2 mile walk.

Back from the meeting, Steve went into town for propane and to pick up a couple of parcels from Quiet Times while I worked on the blog...managed to get 2 posted by late afternoon!

Unfortunately, the wind came up again and it got quite blustery out. We are definitely in another cold snap...with lows going down to freezing at night!

We had an inside happy hour at our place with Earl, Allison, Dave and Leslie...it was just too cold and blustery out.

Thursday (Feb 7) was cold and clear...well, at least the sun is shining! Steve waited as long as he could for it to warm up outside before heading out to fly his glider. Unfortunately it's acting exactly the same as before...back to the work bench (aka dining table), I guess. So he took his big plane out to the open area behind us on the other side of the wash and had fun with it.

After cleaning up inside, I tried to do some work on the laptop but the internet is very slow again. The show is over and there's not so many people here, so it's a mystery as to why. Some say "they" are preparing for 5G so are working on the towers...have no idea if this is the case or not.

We headed into town with Dave and Leslie to run a few errands...picked up parcels at Quiet Times, filled drinking water containers and a few groceries. With that done, we parked on Kuehn Street to check out a few vendors...and, of course, we ended up at Beer Belly's for a beer...
When we got home, we all sat outside in the sunshine at our place enjoying the late afternoon sunshine...Red, Pam, Harry and Vicki joined us. But once that sun went down behind the mountains, it got cold and our happy hour abruptly ended!

It was time to go in and get dinner going anyway...so I started up the Instant Pot. Leslie and Dave joined us for a fashionably late dinner. We enjoyed dinner along with a bottle of red wine...or 2! A great evening!
Friday (Feb 8) Steve headed out at 9:30 with Red to the RC airfield for cleanup duty...gotta get everything ready for the big Desert Flyers Fun Fly this weekend!

Leslie joined me on a 3 mile walk and as soon as Steve got home, he filled the fresh water tank so that I could have my shower.

The rest of day was pretty laid back...Steve flew his plane and after working on the blog for a bit, I sat outside knitting enjoying the sunshine.

There are a bunch of us going to Silly Al's Pizza for dinner tonight but before heading off, we enjoyed a beverage outside. Where's Leslie and Red?...they must be getting ready for an evening out! LOL
Our group at Silly Al's...left to right around the table...me, Harry, Vicki, Pam, Red, Colan, Marilyn, Earl, Allison, Dave and Leslie...
And then the band started...and Pam and Red got up to dance...can't keep them down when the music starts!
It was a nice gathering and great evening...only dampened a bit by the slow service. It was the first time that we have experienced that at Silly Al's...they seemed short staffed.

  1. Although we have been across the Parker dam several times we have never stopped, looks like it is worth stopping and exploring. Good to see Pam and Red on the dance floor!
