Saturday to Monday, February 23 to 25, 2019 (La Posa South LTVA, Quartzsite, AZ)

Finally!...a beautiful sunny day with no wind! Just a light breeze with temperatures up to 57F/14C, not overly hot but nice.

Steve and Earl took their RC planes to the airfield at 9:00...Steve and Red finally wore Earl down...he has his first RC plane! They were hoping Wayne, who had trained Steve last year would be there but he never showed. Steve did a couple of circuits with his plane but on his second pass he noticed the front cowling and motor were hanging down like the front end of the Concord on take off or landing! Surprisingly he managed to land it safely.

While they were gone, I cleaned up inside and then did a bunch of work on the laptop...budget recording, paying bills, etc.

When Steve got home, he set up the table outside to work on his plane...Earl is itching to get his in the air!
It seems the firewall became unglued so was an easy fix. Earl had some epoxy glue that did the trick...thanks Earl!
I decided to sit out in the sun, up against the trailer sheltered from the breeze...I alternated between that and going inside and doing a few light chores.

After the guys were finished working on the planes, they took them out in the desert behind us to fly them. Earl was going to do his inaugural flight...Mike, Colan, Red and Earl...
Earl did great!
Earl's plane is a smaller version of Steve's...
Everyone was back and congregated at our place for happy hour...so nice to sit outside again! Left to right around the circle...me (look...shorts!), Red, Pam, Jim, Cec, Leslie, Dave, Harry, Earl and Allison...
Sunday was the day we are introducing Dave and Leslie to the Desert Bar. It was just after 10:00 when we headed out.

The dirt road to the bar didn't seem as bad this year...don't get me wrong, it was bumpy, just not as bad. Dave had taken some air out of his tires, so that could have made a difference. The hillsides are so green...
We arrived at the bar just before noon.

We grabbed a table in the sun near the band. There was a light cloud covering and a bit of a wind so it was a little cool. Steve went to the bar and got us beer and Les and I went down to order lunch before it got too busy...
The band was pretty good...fun listening to while we ate our lunch...
After lunch, we went for a walk around...Steve and Leslie climbed up the hill and took pictures...
It got busy real quick...
Looking through the arch where all the 4 wheelers park...
That little shack next to 4 wheelers is the original Desert Bar...they've come a very long ways!
Looking back up at the arch
Dave and I climbed a little way up the other side...
Then Steve and Dave climbed to the top...that's the road in...
This place is run totally on solar power...
Steve bought a t-shirt and I got myself a new hoodie and then it was time to leave. A picture of the food area on the lower level...sometimes the bands play down below on the other stage...

After stopping in Parker at Safeway for a few things, we were home just after 4:00...time for happy hour! Red, Pam. Dave, Leslie and Harry joined us with beverages....and we enjoyed an hour or so before the sun went down behind the mountain and it got instantly cold. Time to call it a day!

I was sitting in my chair when I got this shot of the hummingbirds "sharing" at the feeder silhouetted against the evening sky...
Wednesday was a beautiful day...with a beautiful sunrise...
Steve and Earl went to fly their RC planes at 9:00 while I made a pot of chili for tonight's potluck. I had just finished when they got back from flying.
The rest of the day was spent running errands in town...and then taking care of a bunch of chores around the rig. With temperatures in the upper 60's, it was one of the nicest days we have had in a long time...and a great afternoon and evening for our get together. Steve took our table over to the "gathering spot" by the campfire ring and also put the ladder-ball game together and took it over.

Everyone started gathering at 4:00...Dave and Leslie having a game of ladder-ball...
Happy hour started with appetizers...and then dinner was at 5:30. Purely out of coincidence, 4 of us made chili so we had a bit of a chili cook-off. All were very different and all good! The chili was complemented by a variety of salads, biscuits with cookies for dessert. Good job everyone!
There were 23 attending our gathering...in no particular order, Harry, Les and Sue, Roger and Cindi, Red and Pam, Dave and Leslie, Earl and Allison, Colan and Marilyn, Jim and Cec, Bob and Sue, Fred and Teri, Burt and Linda...and Steve and I.

After dinner, the campfire was lit...
As it cooled down some of us moved closer to the fire...

And a beautiful Arizona sunset...
By 9:30, there was only Dave, Leslie, Harry, Steve and I left by the campfire...so the rest of us eventually called it a night. A wonderful evening, with wonderful friends!

  2. Desert bar was a great place ! We really liked that place, amazing that it's all on solar and they are expanding like crazy. If it keeps getting bigger they'll pave that road.
