Sunday and Monday, December 9 and 10, 2018 (Apache Junction, AZ)

We are heading out on another quad ride today...this time though, we are riding right from Dale and Chloe's yard. We were ready to go at 10:00...with Bob, John and Marlis, and neighbours, Greg and Brandie joining us.

After riding a couple of miles on paved roads...
... we hit the trails...

Our first stop...
If we remember correctly this area used to be a Pony Express trail and stop...
An old building foundation...now part of a shortcut on the trail...

We continue on...

Time for another break...

Superstition Mountains in the distance...

We've returned to the staging area...
We turned off the main road and are heading on the back trails to the Goldfield Ghost Town...

The ghost town comes into view...

The beautiful Superstition Mountains in the background as we enter the campground and horse trailer area...

Looking up the main entrance way to the Goldfield Ghost Town...

Lots of horses tied up in the upper parking lot...
More horses ahead and on the right the train goes by..
Parking our machines...

Very cool!
We ended this ride with a stop at the Mammoth Saloon with a country singer strumming away. Goldfield Ghost Town is a favourite stop we have been to a many times when we're in the area and always enjoy. For a tour of the town on one of our previous visits....click here.
We enjoyed a beer out on the deck...it was a very busy place!
Time to head off home....there goes the train again...
Superstition Narrow Gauge Railroad
The Superstition Scenic Narrow Gauge Railroad’s 36″ gauge train consists of a Plymouth diesel pulling a passenger car and a caboose. A mile and a half of track circles the town, and the narrated journey lasts 20 minutes. The engineer tells of the history of Goldfield, the Superstition Mountains, and the desert southwest in general.

On the final stretch of pavement before we're home...
When we first arrived here we had to drive up the driveway on the upper left first, which is steep and rough before backing down into Dale and Chloe's driveway which is also steep...

Our trailer down below...
Doesn't look steep but it is...
We got home at about 2:00. I showered and then headed off for a mani/pedi...a treat I give myself once in awhile. While I was doing that, Steve worked on picture editing.

We enjoyed happy hour on the deck with Chloe and Dale and then Dale grilled burgers while Chloe made fries...yum! Thanks guys! Another great day here in Apache Junction!

Monday morning we headed out just after 9:00...to pick up Buster at Midway Chev. I took a couple of pictures along the way...lots of traffic on our way through Phoenix...
Into the tunnel...

They hadn't been able to find anything wrong with our truck...it fired up no problem every time without quitting. The temperatures here have been much warmer than what we were experiencing in New Mexico when we were having the problems. They did change the fuel filter...perhaps that was the issue? Long story but on our last service in Elkhart the dealer wasn't able to get the old filter off and was afraid of breaking something as they weren't an Isuzu dealer at "that" location and didn't have the parts if he broke something. Anyway it cost us $309...sheesh!

Back home, Steve had left over pizza from the other night for lunch…then got to work. Time to load the quads...and then the boat. He also pulled the suitcases out of the storage compartment.

Dale has been busy doing cabinet work in their motorhome so came over to help Steve fix our kitchen counter sidewall. It was removed when our new galley tank was installed at Duncan RV in Elkhart. Bill, the RV Tech had done a very poor job of putting it back together. The few staples he used were backing out and Steve found a 1 x 2 piece of frame just laying inside the cabinet...Geez!
Thanks for the help Dale! While they they were working on that, I packed my suitcase and puttered around getting ready to leave tomorrow.

Later on, Dale and Chloe came down and joined us for happy hour and we enjoyed a final visit with them before we leave in the morning.

  1. Can't believe after all the work they did for you at Elkhart that they did such a poor job of putting your cabinet back together!
