It was 10:30 by the time we had finished dumping and were heading out...goodbye La Posa South!
We turned south on highway 95 towards Yuma. We continue to be amazed at how green everything is...even the flowers are blossoming...
We passed the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) as we approached Yuma. Not many campers left here...
Tuesday morning we were off to Los Algodones, Mexico for my dentist appointment. Interstate 8 has some major road work being done, reducing it to a single lane in each direction, so we thought we'd follow Google Maps and take the detour route.
It was a very bumpy road and not one we want to take the trailer on when we leave here...we'll stick to the single lane on I-8 next time!
Not exactly our pick on a place we'd like to boondock...
Quechan (aka "The Q") Casino at the junction of I-8 and Algodones Road...
They have a huge parking area where RV's can park...
There are quite a few boondocking spots in the area, some in the distance...
This is where we turned into the huge parking lot...pay $8/day to park a large vehicle...
...and walk across the border into Los Algodones...
So we decided to wander around the streets and take a look at the vendors.
Lots of beautiful things to buy if you're in the market...
And finally sit down for a couple of cold cervesas at El Paraiso...
We were back at the dental office by 1:00...where we still waited. Okay we're now on Mexican time! I finally decided to see another dentist in the office...Dr. Aldo. He was very personable, speaking good English, asking questions and explaining what needed to be done. I actually liked him better than Dr. Bernal...who is a good dentist but doesn't speak much English.
I needed to have an old crown replaced...the tooth had already had a root canal, which was good. Another tooth just needed a filling...perfect! So he got started on the crown...once that was done, he did the filling and I didn't even need any freezing for that tooth (just the crown). It was a long afternoon but with another appointment made for the next day to have the crown put in, we were on our way to the border.
Some entertainment along the way...
As feared, the line up at the border was as far as the eyes could see!
But surprisingly it didn't take that long to get through...the line moved very quickly and we were back in the US about 20 minutes later.
The Colorado River on our way back towards I-8...
It was just after 3:30 when we got home. We immediately got changed into our bathing suits and headed to the pool for happy hour! The pool was packed and the water was a little cloudy looking so...
Steve had beer and I had a margarita...both were $2/each...we imbibed on a few :-)
The entertainment today was karaoke...some folks were really good...others were painful but it was a great way to end a long hot day!
It wasn't so great when we got back to the trailer though...the air conditioner wasn't working and it was hot! At first we thought a fuse had blown but after Steve found it was still on he then went out to the power post outside and discovered the lights were out on our Surgeguard Voltage Regulator box. Just then a neighbour behind us said the power was out to parts of the park. Whew, thankfully it wasn't anything to do with our electrical...but sheesh, it was hot without the AC! Steve called the park emergency number and was told that maintenance was working on it.
So we sat outside where the sun was getting low in the sky and there was a bit of a breeze. Steve grilled burgers on the barbecue for dinner...then we continued to sit outside as it got dark. We saw the lights go out on the next loop over and figured that's not good, but about 10 minutes later just after 7:30 all the power came back on...yay!
My dental appointment Wednesday wasn't until 1:30, so we had a relaxing start to the day.
This guy has flown by every day...
And then headed back to Los Algodones. This time we stayed on I-8...I took a few pictures along the way. Old Yuma Prison...
We got to Los Algodones earlier than I expected...I thought it would take longer with the traffic on the I-8. We stopped for lunch at a popular taco stand. There is always a long line up, so I stood in line, ordered our tacos (shrimp and fish...yum!) and a cervesa while Steve waited for a table. Luckily, one had become available by the time I got through the lineup!
Steve had 3 shrimp tacos and I had one fish and one shrimp...
After we had finished, we still had some time to kill so we wandered around some more. As you can see, we also made a purchase...some metal sculptures to hang in the trailer. They are still packaged up, so will have to show those later.
We were hot and thirsty...and still had a little time to kill before my appointment, so we stopped for another cervesa...
This fellow had a very nice voice...
There was a long line up of cars waiting to cross the border back into the States...they had entertainment...
...and refreshments to purchase...We were back at the dental office by 1:30...and I still had to wait about another 45 minutes before I got taken in. Then Dr. Aldo had so much trimming to do on the crown that he had to send it back to the lab to be polished...another 40 minute wait. It was going on 4:30 by the time we got finished. This is the third year we have been going to Bernal Dental Group and have never had such long waits...business must be good, I guess!
Glad you managed to get all your dental work done inspite of the waits.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great post! I'm hoping to get my courage up one day to try a dentist in Mexico. You make it sound easy!
