The wind rattling the trailer woke us up just after 5:00 this morning. Steve said that he could hear it building in the distance...then wham, it hit! So we were up early and as the sun rose, Steve captured pictures of the dust storm that was shaking the trailer with predicted gusts to 44 mph...
Oops...there goes the outhouse ...the guy above was lucky...
We had basically decided that we were going to stay put...not only was Steve not going to go up on the roof of the trailer to lower the solar panels, but driving wouldn't be fun either. However, around 9:00, the wind died down substantially...Steve and Red were outside chatting and next thing I know, Steve's at the door telling me, "we're going"!
And we were on the road about an hour or so later! Heading south on I-17 to I-10 east...we passed downtown Phoenix...
Here we are at a rest stop along the way...
Beautiful mountain views as we get closer to Tucson...
Picacho Peak State Park, we will have to try it out sometime....
We took the off-ramp to Orange Grove Road...an exit further than we thought we should have taken given that once we reached Oracle Road, we basically back-tracked about 7 miles...oh Serena...our GPS is doing strange things lately!
Catalina State Park is actually in Oro Valley...
We pulled into Catalina State Park shortly before 1:30 and after selecting sites and registering, we headed into the campground. We are actually in the same site (A43) that we were in last time we were here (February, 2012)...and it is the spot where we took the picture of our rig that you see on our blog. If interested in viewing our blog from our last visit, click here.
Pam and Red had a little difficulty getting into their site, so they ended up changing to one just down the road (instead of across from us). We got all set up and then relaxed in the late afternoon sun for a bit before taking a cocktail down to Red and Pam's for a short visit. Red and Steve are planning a visit to the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson tomorrow...Pam and I declined the trip, deciding to enjoy some "alone time" and maybe a walk around here in the park.
