Tuesday, July 30, 2013 (Travel to Resurrection Bay South Campground, Seward, Alaska)

Today we are heading to Seward...a nice manageable 84 miles away.  We drove the short distance back to the Seward Highway and made a left, continuing along the "Seward Scenic Byway".  At the base of Turnagain Arm, there are a lot of dead trees from 1964 earthquake tsunami...

Onto the Kenai Peninsula...

The clouds are low...it's pretty socked in, actually.  More absolutely beautiful fireweed on the hillside...

We passed by Summit Lake Lodge...

...and the sun finally burned through the fog and clouds...nice...

We arrived in Seward just before 12:30 and found the town sani-dump.  While "doing our thing" there, we spoke to a nice older fellow who was just leaving Seward.  We asked him about the county campgrounds that are along the waterfront.  He said that he had just left a nice spot down at Resurrection Bay South. It was a great tip from him...we headed down there as soon as we had dumped and filled with freshwater.
I believe there are three campgrounds that line the shoreline...one has power and water hookups ($30/night), the others are dry camping at $15/night.

We took site RS38 (dry camping) and although a wee bit narrow, we managed to fit the truck in beside us...

 Great view...

There is a walkway that runs from one end of town all the way along the water to the other end...

With a view like this, gotta clean those windows...

After all the work was done, we went for a walk south along the walkway...it's pretty breezy out today...

This is at the southern end of town near the Alaska Sealife Center.  The campsite along the waterfront left is huge however it is much windier here...

Cruise Ship in port...

Mount Marathon where the Mount Marathon Race is held every July 4th long weekend... Can you see the trails on the mountain...they are incredibly steep.

We're looking forward to exploring the area...stunning scenery!
