Trail River...
The train that goes between Anchorage and Seward...
At the junction, we turned west onto the Sterling Highway towards Soldontna...and Homer.
Soon we came to the Kenai River and the very busy, touristy area of Cooper Landing and the Kenai - Russian River area...
...and road construction...the road was in pretty bad shape in spots...
Rafters on the river...
Fishermen...
...like I said...the road was in pretty bad shape...more speed bumps...
Once through this area, the landscape completely changed...
Then we passed through Soldotna...the Kenai River again...
...and continued south towards Homer, passing through the small fishing village of Ninilchik along Cook Inlet...
That's a drilling platform out in the inlet...
Then we hit road construction again...for 23 miles just before Homer. It had been raining and the gravel was just muck...great...we're covered in mud again...
We arrived in Homer around 2:00 and after filling with freshwater at the sani-dump, we continued towards Homer Spit passing by Beluga Lake...a popular spot for float planes...
Onto the Spit...
We arrived at Mariner Park campground, run by the city. It is another spot where we can back right onto the inlet...and there's plenty of room for maneuvering. It was an another great spot...there are no services and the price is right...$15/night.
We unhitched and got all set up...Steve even managed to get a satellite signal, although the dish looks like it is almost pointing at the ground! Unfortunately, the Verizon signal is very weak again...so I still won't be able to work on the blog...oh sheesh, I'm getting so far behind!
We sat outside, although a little chilly and breezy...the view to the left...
...and the view to the right...
...and a fellow flying a kite...
We sat outside for a bit and then went inside to get out of the wind...it was quite chilly. After dinner, we watched TV and then called it a night.
