Sunday, July 8, 2018 (Travel to Glenview Cottages and Campground, Sault Ste Marie, ON)

Day 2...and a much prettier and scenic drive as we were going around Lake Superior. After a noisy night with little sleep at the Husky Truck Stop, we were up bright and early and on the road shortly after 7:30...it was a cloudy day.

We weren't far out of Nipigon when we hit road construction...no big deal, it was Sunday...
Jackfish River....
Karma Point...quite a peninsula that juts out into Lake Superior...

Gravel River...

Steel River...

Little Pic River...

Just past Marathon, Steve saw this small black bear in the ditch ahead...I just managed to get a quick picture as we drove by...

Lake Superior Provincial Park is one of the largest provincial parks in Ontario, covering about 1,550 square kilometres (600 sq mi) along the northeastern shores of Lake Superior between Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa in Northeastern Ontario.

Sault (funny way of spelling "Soo") Ste Marie!
We had planned to split today's drive into 2 shorter travel days but being on the road so early, we decided just to carry on right though...although it made it a gruelling 7 hour drive for Steve.

We almost missed the entrance to Glenview Cottages and Campground...it sneaks up on you just past a curve in the road and there is not much signage visible from the road (this picture is taken later coming from the opposite direction)...

After registering...$42.30 + tax/night (with Good Sam Discount)...we made our way passed the cottages to the campground and site 48. The pull through sites are long (100') with water, sewer and 30 amp power....in a rustic setting. Nothing fancy here but it's nice...the only drawback is that the highway is close. It also has a good wifi connection (included), as well as laundry, a pool and sauna and hot tub.
We're looking forward to a few nights here, especially after 2 long travel days.

  1. Hammering out the blog posts pal, good for you! As always the travel pics are awesome. Batchwana Bay looked enticing. Is there a reason not many travellers go the southern route to Thunder Bay? Too twisty, maybe nowhere to stop? I was looking on google maps and just wondered if you thought of it?

    1. Yes, it's been a busy day! Don't know about the southern route to Thunder Bay...I just think it's longer. We weren't stopping in TB, so took the faster route by-passing it.

  3. Been stealthily enjoying your blog for a couple of days now. We're heading to Nakusp next week from Pemberton, BC with our 26 ft travel trailer and our 2 boys so saw your post about that trip. My question is, what kind of truck are you hauling with? I can't seem to find any info on it anywhere. Thanks!

    1. Thanks for tagging along! The truck is a 2008 GMC T7500 custom built to my own design at Intercontinental Truck Bodies in Surrey, BC. It has a Isuzu 260 HP, 6 cylinder diesel with an Allison 6 speed auto transmission. We carry 2 Yamaha Grizzly ATV’s in the box which is also insulated so we have camped in it and use it as a guest room.
