We had 2 long travel days to make it to our next destination...and lots of pictures were taken along the way! Here is day 1...
Saturday morning, it was about 9:30 when we pulled out of Wabigoon Lake RV Park. Our drive east had a lot of "nothingness" interspersed with bits of road construction and bodies of water.
Shell Lake...
Township of Ignace....
Beech 18 on floats...
We stopped at a nice rest area on Lodge Lake for lunch...this was a great rest area for us because it had a large parking area for commercial vehicles. Most are geared for smaller vehicles and it would be tight for us to get through.
Beautiful old church just east of Upsala, ON...
We crossed into another time zone...Eastern Time, we're now 3 hours ahead of BC!
The very long road ahead...Ontario is a such a huge province...
Not mountainous but hillier than we remember...
Just past Sunshine, ON, we took highway 102 that skirts around Thunder Bay...crossing over Kaministiqui River...
An interesting car for sale...have no idea what it is...
As Lake Superior came into view we passed the Terry Fox Memorial Lookout...it would have been nice to stop but we weren't sure how large the parking area is and when you are 66 feet long, we don't like to chance getting into a spot that is not meant for vehicles that big...
Beautiful red rock cliffs as we near Nipigon...
We made our stop for the night at a Husky Travel Centre in Nipigon...a busy truck stop. We even enjoyed a delicious dinner there.
There was a Tourist Information Centre next door...Steve went to check the parking there while I went into the Husky to ensure it was okay to park overnight. No problem parking with the trucks...the tourist centre parking area is small and unlevel. Truck stops are probably our least favourite overnight stops because of the noisy trucks...but they work when it's the only free option.
Wow you can see forever along that road. That car looks like a winter project gone bad! Terry Fox stop would be on our list I think. We're 10 ft shorter... will likely have a look. Safe trip.
ReplyDeleteWe would have liked to stop but didn't want to chance it...it's up a hill from the highway so you can't see what the parking is like.
DeleteWe travel through Nipigon a couple times a year on our way to Pasha, it is our last fuel stop before heading into the bush.
ReplyDeleteI figured we were close to the turnoff to Pasha!
DeleteSuch pretty scenery! We spent some time in Ontario as we lived on the other side of the lake until that unfortunate incident and now we cannot return ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou'll just have to give it another go!
