We went north on hwy 59 for 10 kms and then took hwy 12 south. Lots of spectacular canola fields...
At Beausejour we turned onto hwy 44 east...we would eventually hit the TransCanada hwy 1 at Whiteshell. But first we had 115 kms of road to cover. Then came a couple of signs, "Historic Highway 1" and then "Rough and Uneven Surface for the next 31 kms"...great! The posted speed limit was 90 km/h but we only managed between 40 to 60 max! Whiteshell Recreation Area...
This young buck was bounding back and forth across the highway in front of us before finally disappearing into the bushes...
Lily Pond...
Beaver Lodge...
West Hawk Lake...
Once on hwy 1, we continued east...Lyons Lake...
And soon crossed the provincial border into Ontario...
Middle Lake...
Canada is the second largest country in the world and contains 60 % of the worlds lakes, more than all countries combined...
Dogtooth Lake...
We stopped for lunch at Little Joe Lake...a pull-off on the side of the highway...
It was actually a historical site...
Wabigoon River...we're getting close to our destination for today...
Approaching Dryden...a pulp mill town...
We stayed at this park 8 years ago (September) in our first year on the road. It's not a destination park, only 17 sites but a good overnight stop with full hookups and fairly reasonable at $32...including a good wifi signal! The owners are very friendly. The only negative is it's next to the highway plus there is a train track nearby.
After getting set-up, we relaxed inside with the AC running. I downloaded pictures taken over the last couple of days so that Steve could do his editing and I could get blog updates done using the free wifi.
After dinner we went for a walk around the campground....
A grassy tent area as you head down to the dock...
It's very reedy at this arm of the lake...
We didn't stay long down by the water as the bugs were very annoying...chasing us back to the trailer.
We continue our trek east tomorrow...next major stop is Sault Ste Marie, but we will likely make another couple of stops along the way.
Very pretty countryside. Too bad for the bugs though.
ReplyDeleteSo much water in Manitoba and Ontario! Beautiful areas! But yeah, the bugs are annoying.
DeleteGlad you are getting to where you want to go with no problems (Minus the Tires)
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Thanks...lots of miles to go!
DeleteThe bugs are one thing we are not looking forward to as we start our trek to Ontario next week, hopefully they follow you east!
ReplyDeleteNope...gonna leave them explicit instructions to stay put!
DeleteI love my home here in Ontario❤ it's beautiful. But the bugs are really annoying.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are!
DeleteBeauty country you are travelling through absolutely! We're watching your path of course as we let you blaze a trail to Sault St Marie. Also our destination in October.
ReplyDeleteOntario is soooo big!
DeleteMore beautiful country. Yes, lots of water all right. So green!
